Khunt getting support from the AFL for three more years

Yes the media interest has been huge. But that is only the surface level impact. As ive stated several times now there is much more at play here including the credibility of the AFL, an organisation which runs a reality tv style experiment within its own professional competition and the credibiliy of the suns. Sure the interest was there last year, and will remain this year but those with foresight will know this farce will implode on itself once the everyday run of the mill public clicks on that khunt simply lowered the quality of the comp and the suns and that the AFL did it simply as one big promotional drive.

All the while there's thousands of young up and comers who would kill for khunts spot, THOUSANDS who are more skilled and could deliver on field success for the suns. For shame, for shame

Sure they would kill for his opportunity, but are they as good?

I'm sure the Suns would prefer KHunt, who has the name and media interest to bring in members and sponsorship, over some kid with a similar impact on the field.

He isn't there replacing a number one draft pick. He's being paid a fairly modest wage by the club so he isn't squeezing the salary cap. The draft and cap dictate who the suns recruit and k hunt will easily have the skills of a mid to low end draft pick. But he comes with so many other advantages in areas such as media interest, leadership qualities, sponsorship interest, membership promotion etc. additionally he has done a fantastic job of promoting the game for the AFL.

If an AFL club cannot fit these advantages into a list of 44 there is something wrong.

All being conducted in the premier competition and thus far the results of this 'project' are completely shameful for the organisation running it. Credibility? Lost. Better players are missing their chance while millions are being thrown at a gumby unskilled gold digger who has not shown commitment to the game prior to his handout. At least Izzy did a whole season in the lower grades before stepping it up. Khunt just lunged for the money. Its hilarious that this man is now set for life while playing at such a low level on the field. Hilarious! But shameful

He has improved to the point where he is a useful member of the team. One of 44 listed players remember. You've obviously never watched the reserves for AFL sides. It is not unusual for teams to have a project on their list. Quite a number of teams have recruited overseas players with little AFL experience. Collingwood have a tall and athletic basketballer from the USA at the moment. North Melbourne have a kid from Sudan. Essendon and a number of other teams have recruited the cream of Gaelic football to see if they can make them into handy running players. I'd love to know how KHunt and Izzy are any different. With the defensive skills they possess from RL it is a reasonable chance to take. Izzy has already shown in the NAB cup game against Hawthorn that he has the sort of contested marking skill that warrants a chance in the AFL.

Why does KHunt bother you so much KE? As has been pointed out, he has delivered to the AFL over and above what his contract amount was in terms of media, sponsorship and membership dollars. That's a bonus for the AFL. If he fails, he fails and will just prove how hard it is for a top of their game international rep RL player to make the switch to Australian Football. The game of Australian Football obviously isn't as easy as some RL like to make out.

He is improving as a player and the off field benefits he has provided have been way above expectations. I'm not surprised at all that he has been given another contract!

3 million bucks? Is he worth that on the field taking away this supposed promo value which, given his 1st season, has a hi potential to turn very sour?

Of course he's improving but how much? I doubt there's massive improvement, which is what is needed.

We'll see Xman, I'll keep an eye on that dreamteam thing and watch the goofy guy get run around in circles by better opposition, which means every player he marks up on.
