Foxtel Targets $4 Billion Exclusive NRL Deal to Block Nine Network over 5 years and is actively pursuing partnerships with Seven or Ten networks

Foxtel has pitched a $4 billion proposal to secure exclusive control of all National Rugby League (NRL) broadcast rights from 2028, aiming to freeze out Nine Entertainment.

The $4B figure often quoted is misleading. It comes from PVL wanting to match the AFL's last deal that was worth $4.5B. But that was over 7 years and worth $643M per year. The NRL is doing a 5 year deal. To equal the AFL the deal needs to be $3.2B over that period.

The NRL's current deal is believed to be between $400M - $430M per year. They need a 55% increase to equal the AFL. With the current interest I'd say that is pretty much assured. If they got $4B it would be $800M per year and dwarf the AFL's deal. I can't see it getting that high. But then again PVL has been underestimated all his life. If he get's $800M per year it will be the deal of the century.

yep true, it looks solid for NRL to go 5 years. it if beats AFL with a 5 year that is

though with PVL he may stretch it out just to nudge AFL

I can see NRL hitting close to $750mill approx
especially with the way inflation has went
and so much extra content the NRL has added to the package

Be good if PVL was discussing with NZ at same time and international
so they could announce a total figure at the press conference.

V’landys has revealed one broadcaster is pushing for a 20-team competition within three years to beef-up the richest broadcast deal in rugby league’s 118-year history.

1 network undisclosed wants 20 teams with an extra team added in 2029/2030 for a record deal to be included.
