Here we go, this stoopid ritual of port fans singing love songs before a full contact sport begins has only been around a few years.

Id say the crowd gender percentages have barely changed since fev was a rookie..

Thanks for coming sport capital but it's another fail for you in this thread. 50/50 indeed. It's not close and it's not "half the population" you silly silly man
Great song though.

It's a couple years old, but seems credible. Please note the figures quoted.

First few paragraphs.

The AFL does best in attracting young women to games and then maintaining their loyalty in later years. AAP/David Mariuz

The recent Anzac Day football matches attracted big crowds. More than 114,000 people attended NRL matches in five cities. In the AFL, 88,000 braved wet weather for one match alone – the MCG tussle between Collingwood and Essendon.

Compared with football stadiums worldwide, Australian fans have long stood out from the crowd. On a couple of key things. One is the mixing of fans from the contesting clubs through the ground. A second is a remarkably higher attendance by women.

Many football games overseas play in front of overwhelmingly male audiences. Here, women form 40% of a typical footy crowd – somewhat higher for Australian rules football, slightly lower for rugby league.

"somewhat higher for Australian rules football"
Higher than what you ask?
40%
Somewhat higher than 40% of Aussie rules crowds are women.
That's fucking close to 50/50 don't you think?

I'l let you digest that for the night. Tootles

Aflcrap seems to be on the money here. I've been to many AFL games in Melbourne and I can tell ya, the crowds are nowhere near 50/50. Just look at the images of crowds and you'll see. Then there's the article sportscapital provudes. It's vague, doesn't come from a reputable org or tell us where the figures come from and I recall Australia's leading market research org Roy Morgan citing something like 30% of Aussie rules supporters were women and that this number was declining.

Sportscapital - he tries hard, we must give him that

 just admit it Fred, ur obsessed with aflcrap

Ok now I think it's time we got this thread back on track after some AFL supporting douchebag decided to bring up the topic of AFL crowds in a thread about NRL..how unusual. Surprise surprise! :puke:

So whilst buzz has been effectively imprisoned to the 'from the outer' board  don't worry, he's ok, I've taken to feeding the troll by hurling occasional abuse at the poor bugger from time to time  but whilst he's there I'm saddened to see the one thread where he actually may have been onto something tarnished by AFL twat mouthed flips who think of the crowd as above the sport

So the thread topic, is rugby league just mma? Well no but in the past two decades the game has been spoils somewhat by teams like the melbourne Storm and their coach who will look for any avenue, however outside the unwritten agreements of the code, to win.. So I'm pretty sure it was that dickhead Bellamy who originally thought he'd support teaching his players wrestling techniques to slow the play the ball down. What a wander, now we have a multitude of new rules that means refs blow their whistles more. All because Bellamy couldn't get his team to win on rugby league skills alone, he had to look into more mma type skills. If it was him who started it, What a fukkin walker that Bellamy is, a disgrace to the code.

And for once I might've had a chance to give buzz a tiny bit of credit. But alas he's locked up! And I don't think he'll be back. But please, visit him 'from the outer'

So underwhelmingly predictable.

You called bullshit on a post of mine about my opinion, defending the appeal of AFL physiques to the fairer sex.
I proved my point with evidence. From a credible source. With a disclaimer. And the author, he's a PHD fellow at Melbourne Uni. Not some up start journo looking for a headline.
Do you even know what having a fellowship means, Hmmm?

What do you retort with:
Constant misquoting: A sign of weakness in arguments.
Opinion: Good for starting arguments, very hard to win one with.
Insults: Another sign of weakness in arguments. And a reflection on your character.
Assumptions: Basically guesses, with no circumstantial evidence.
And my fave, a pic from possibly last century. Fuck that was funny! Thanks KE!

Essentially nothing of substance!

This's isn't the school yard lads.
You called me out.
I smashed you both.
Ball's in your court.
