"plus the prices were less than $100 the first year, then it got up to $200 which would've put a few people off. Food prices and the fun police killed it too."

Just noting that at no point does the article in the OP say that Melbourne wants this event.
It states in the article that

"The Auckland Nines contract expires next year and the Victorian government is already bidding to host the 2019 event."

"NRL is already talking with several State Governments interested in hosting the event."

Well it's a bit confusing if we go by your posts .
You have said that they don't exist because the NRL HAS NOT expanded outside QLd & NSW
You then say that this non existent team has a LEAGUES CLUB ...a club that apparently you're the only person on EARTH who knows about it.
So on your world depending on your level of imbibed metho they can exist or they can't..
Those in the real world know they are going just fine in an AFL dominated city .

Are you serious, the SOO crowd had a huge interstate travell factor (at least a third if not more http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/victoria- ... melbourne/. There was also the novelty factor, no one talks about rl 9's in Melb, if the Vic Gov is going after it then its only to fill hotel spaces. Its not a sign of growth of thebgame in Victoria. Sounds like another RL poster looking through rose coloured glasses again.

I suppose the Victorian government are paying $5m for Origin because they don't want that either and I guess Ch.7 have no interest in Rugby League's Word Cup, despite paying to broadcast it - once again.
