So you can't answer the above question? I'd stop the celebrations until you find out.

Out of interest, how did their total revenues compare?

Well it's pretty clear from this article the NRLs profit excludes their growth or sustainability funding of 200m over the next 4 years. When these are taken in to account they have little if any profit.

They also earned 314m in 2013, while AFL earned well over 400m in 2012.

Its a fairy straight forward concept. Even the most primitive of Buttkissers should be able to understand it.

NRL profit for 2013 = $50m.

AFL profit for 2012= $7m

Highest TV ratings

lol

No real profit. What they announced was a surplus prior to any expansion or future costings. The AFLs 2012 profit was 7m after these costings. Plus they had a far far bigger revenue pool overall.

So let's rate all indicators:
AFL won: biggest crowd, highest crowd average, GF TV ratings, highest rating PTV program, most members, most revenue

NRL won.......hmmm, nothing

RL won most FTA TV viewers for SOO

Figures released yesterday show the AFL turned a profit of $6.7 million in 2012 and enjoyed record revenues of $425 million. It was a return to the black for the league after recording a lost of $23.6 million in 2011.

About $290 million was distributed among the 18 clubs.

Surplus/(Deficit)
2003-4.665m
2004-1.692m
2005-1.728m
2006-2.151m
2007-5.222m
2008-2.368m
2009-(7.526)m
2010-(10.632)m
2011-(43.255)m
2012-6.700m

Your expenditure on clubs is massive ie Suns, G WS, Lions, port porpaliade, are all loosing money hand over fist and having the AFL bail them out every year.

Around 15 NRL clubs lose money every year and rely on the NRL to bail them. At least the AFL have more than one wealthy club. We'd have about 10 that are doing very well

The AFL have been using there future fund over the last 5 years.

2007 -(16.400)
2008 -(17.245)
2009- (17.409)
2010- (18.431)
2011- (19.874)

that is from your annual report, 89million taken out of your future fund over 5 years to help pay some bills.

Those three deficit years were understandable, establishing the Suns and the Giants. Now they're back in the black.

They've also made profits every year except one over the last decade. In that year they set up to new teams with sustainable stadium deals
