Well it's pretty clear from this article the NRLs profit excludes their growth or sustainability funding of 200m over the next 4 years. When these are taken in to account they have little if any profit.
They also earned 314m in 2013, while AFL earned well over 400m in 2012.

Around 15 NRL clubs lose money every year and rely on the NRL to bail them. At least the AFL have more than one wealthy club. Your expenditure on clubs is massive ie Suns, G WS, Lions, port porpaliade, are all loosing money hand over fist and having the AFL bail them out every year.
