Re: RL State of Dumbarses
I didnt reply because i thought i had already tried to explain the very thing you were asking in my post, you one you replied with your question.NRLCrap1 wrote:Did anyone notice that 214 ignored my question? Gee whiz I wonder what I said wrong......
Basically what i tried to say in that post was that the AFL has a different culture when it comes to supporting its sporting teams. an AFL fan will get alot more upset if their team looses than a NRL fan would, some people would call that more passionate. but RL fans are just as or more passionate than an AFL supporter when it comes to the SOO, and i dont see anything wrong with that as NSW or QLD are just another one of our 'teams'.
Now you asked why is this?? I dunno, maybe like in my comment the fact that as a RL fan growing up its programed into you to hate the other state, from your family, friends, media. whereas the club competition there is none of that bar brisbane (well it was the QLD team) and manly.
Maybe the whole 'RL fans have less passion' is not at all correct and it just seems that way because Rugby league has higher levels of the game/more avenues in the game than just the national club competition, and these REP games are also supported strongly by RL fans so their passion is actually not more or less than AFL fans but the same just more spread out.
And maybe it needs to be looked at from a different perspective. for 30 years SOO has always been close, and both states are bitter rivals who hate to loose, and the SOO games have always been entertaining... sounds very much like two top of the table clubs heading into the grandfinal. so maybe thats why theres so much passion for SOO, you AFL guys have to imagine what it would feel if your club was playing in the GF then times it by 3!
I hope now i somewhat answered your question.

Its all good, lol i only read that comment this morning and it made me laugh actually...Swans4ever wrote:I withdraw my accusation sorry 214

Re: RL State of Dumbarses
24, I think SOo is a great sporting show case and let's be honest, it is the shinning jewel of the season for the nrl. You could also ask would the AFL grand final outrage the Melbourne cup , or I'd the soccer Roos were playing in the World Cup , would it put rate that. I think it wouldn't but who knows. I would like to know what the papers outside new and qld had on them today re soo ? I mean the hard copies not Internet . Today the Gold Coast bulletin and the mail sti had big features in them re origin . I doubt the other papers did .

Re: RL State of Dumbarses
lol 2 days later and only the streaker still gets mentioned, now back to reality for the NRl, all the state of origin bandwagon fans fall off, & back to playing in stadiumsStewie wrote:GWS... our smallest team and a player that was used as a promotional tool, he got the NSW media talking about GWS and that's exactly what the AFL wanted.214Four wrote:yeh alot like when gws bought izi falou. all the media was talking about was him and not about gws or their results, but you AFL fans were so loud and brash to point out that was good publicity.Stewie wrote:It's been more talked about than the actual result of the game. It shows what a meaningless gimmick SoO is.214Four wrote:The streaker in last nights state of origin game 3 i think was good for the game on a promotional perspective, the game has been the talk of the nation.
ANOTHER NOTE...
do you guys think that the AFL grand final this year will beat the tv audience for game 3?? not a smartass question but seriously...
SoO 3 is your biggest game and more people are talking about that fat streaker than who actually won. That's not what the nRL want. As I said, meaningless gimmick![]()
If the Swans play and the weather in Sydney is shocking meaning more people will be in doors watching TV, then yes it can break the record. What certainly would break the record was if the Grand Final was on a Wednesday night in the middle of winter, and not a Saturday afternoon.

I just love how people in Sydney think that because something is happening in their city - the rest of Australia is paying attention and or paying attention to it! No one in Melb is talking about SOO, it's not on the news and it's not a point of discussion around the water cooler! Now I don't have an issue with SOO or dispute its popularity and tv ratings good luck to RL for having it. But please don't overstate its lasting effects or it's interest other than an event but not habit changing. People in Melbourne are still far more interested in their AF team.
