Yes I agree pies, there is no specific 'code war' going on. There's just poor form by the AFL in their recruitment and promotion strategy and in the propaganda like rhetoric of its leader Andrew Demetriou i.e. "AFL will be the sport of choice for all young Australian men" - the AFL aint a sport and the delusions of grandeur in such statements is simply offensive. Poor form indeed.
Like the NRL CEO hasnt made similar farcical claims

Is rugby league the No. 1 sport in Australia?
Yes. It matters to millions of people and I think the opportunity is to grow this thing into the best it can be, which is the No. 1 code. I want to keep it that way and develop this great game into something we're all really proud to be a part of, be it as an administrator, sponsor, fan, parent or young boy or girl who plays rugby league

Growing a sport to be the best it can be? That's not delusional.

Thinking one sport will be the sport of choice for all young australian men? Now that's delusional.

Great to see you've been reading the NRL CEOs interviews though Xman, good for you :thumbleft:

What measure would you like to compare AFL and nRL?

Attendance? AFL TROUNCES you
Participation? Australian Football TROUNCES Rugby League
Ratings: The AFL beat the nRL in 2013 (I trust you'll ignoer the previous points and just continue your tired claims about this).

Hell even fantasy football is more popular for AFL than nRL.

I see where you are coming from Dave but I think it is more confined to Sydney . Up here I have noticed a general acceptance of the suns ... There was a little early on in previous years but it seems to disappeared this year. I think maybe Sydney is the last area where this continues . Melbourne don't go on about fearing storm and ask a lot if Melbourne people and they would say the follow storm in nrl. There certainly doesn't seem to be the hysteria you see in Sydney in the media at least . Same on coast, AFL is pretty strong with a growing junior comp. so no war up here ... We all get along :)

rubbish buddy

the VFL release info to the media .... they know the press will run with stories
words like spike
gate crash etc may come from the media
but VFL club CEO's in QLD & NSW have stated & have been quoted saying .. they want to .. " take on " .. the NRL
they want to
start earlier in 2014 so as to hinder the NRL .... they want our players .. so they can attract our fans to bumbleball , they want to see us off

& thats fine .... say what you want to do , we all know it anyway
lets not pussy foot around
we're up for it
lets get it on ...

anyone who thinks the VFL's intentions aren't to dominate NSW & QLD, through any means , is niave in the extreme
the VFL & its fans claiming this hostility from their code toward ours ... is a figment of our imagination
are just hoping to get us off guard & complacent
guess what
we're not falling for it ....

a whopping of biblical proportions in NSW the ACT & QLD , is coming their way ...

You lost the media deal, and that's even with the nRL selling out to the television networks.

Attendances for the first 3 rounds are the highest ever dick head, meanwhile we have nRL teams like the Raiders and Panthers losing out to the Giants in crowds

More and more evidence piles up when it comes to nRL crowds being fudged, just check out the crowds thread on LU. People questioning the crowd figure all the time saying it was fudged, with league commentators agreeing on twitter as well. [-X

As more kids grow up with football in NSW and QLD, and the old neanderthals die out, I can't see the new generation taking a huge shine to rl as they once did decades ago. One of the big reasons rl has any sort of support is because of the lack of competition from any other codes. Pre 1980's what was there? Post 1980's, you've got the Swans owning NSW crowds and now soccer kicking rl's arse in western Sydney. Give it another 15 years and Giants crowds could well be right up there with Swans crowds after they've had some success.

I've been hearing about this 'whopping' (sic) for years. I remember when the Suns were going to get crushed on the GC, and they out-drew the Titans in their first year. I remember when the Giants were going to get pulverised by the nRl in WS, and they didn't even have the lowest crowd in Sydney last year. What you're doing isn't fighting back, it's defence in your own territory. Piling sandbags and desperateley trying to keep your head above water. You have one team behind enemy lines and they're a joke. They're such a joke that AFL teams work along side them and share facilities and membership advice to help them out. Storm players appear on AFL360 and the AFL Footy Show regularly, because nobody's threatened, they genuinely wish them well in their little endevours.

In a million years the STORM will never be the highest drawing side in Melbourne (they can't even outdraw the Dogs FFS), yet the Swans have been in Syney for 18 YEARS IN A ROW. The comparison for the Giants is a 2nd Melbourne nRL side, but we can compare them with the ONLY Melbourne nRL side and they're not far off. You throw criticisms at the Suns and Giants in their formative years, and completeley, deliberateley ignore the failure of the Storm to capitalise on an unparrallelled period of success. You slam the Swans and Lions for falling from their premiership crowd highs, but don't want to discuss the Storm's inability to even REACH those numbers. They averaged 12k in a premiership year. This is it for them. This period is make or break for them, because they're not getting a team like Slatter, Cronk and Smith again any time soon. They will fade away into even greater obscurity.
