Pfft if you want to see a real rivalry with real tribalism, watch the Collingwood v Carlton game this week.

Ahhhh the AFL always showing the nRL how it's done.

ummm so? You see Raiderdave, in professional sport clubs look for support outside their traditional areas while continuing to be active in their traditional zones. Do you think Collingwood should only target the people living in Collingwood?

because the NRL in sydney is still a game connected to its suburban roots
Yep, it's still a small suburban comp and nothing more. After all these years it's still not a national competition because the interest just isn't there for the boring pommie game.

its a game thats connected to its heritage
it has defined territories in Sydney still spread from the mountains to the sea.... you follow Manly & live in Sydney .. you most probably Live in the Manly Waringah region
you follow the Sharks
you most probably live in the shire

wow
what tribalism ... you & your past is connected to the area your club STILL comes from
this is your history
this is your territory =D> =D> =D>

unlike the souless victorian game in Melb , whos fans do not associate with the historical territory their club comes from
you live in Collingdon
you probably follow any one of ten teams .... same if you live in Richenwood
you follow Carlenscray

no fucking idea why as you have never lived anywhere near there
but you are a confused singlet wearing F wit who must scream baawwwwwwlllllllll at a pack of bumbling fumbling clowns for 3 hrs a week for some reason
at a generic ground that every club in melb plays at :-k

wow
what a karmichael of a snorefest comp
In summary, the NRL is a small suburban competition where fans feel they need to somehow support the team in their region. What happens when NRL fans move to another suburb or city? Do they change teams they support?

Many would be for similar reasons as mine. I'm a third generation Essendon supporter. I grew up in an Essendon recruiting zone. I played a number of junior football games for Essendon. A number of my class mates played senior football for Essendon including Paul Salmon, Dean Bailey, Geoff Parker, Gary ODonnell.

Yet I grew up 40kms away from Essendon.

The 25k swans members don't get access. Therefore 10k giants members and 20-25k swans general public will be expected just like last year. Go giants! =D>

Didn't you say rd that various things impact crowd numbers in Sydney ?? Many variables ??? Of which you mentioned time I'd day , the team that was being played ??? I get confused as you say there are many things impacting crowd numbers ? Surely last v 1st would be one wouldn't it ???

Swans playing GC at home this week. I wonder which of the following will come true:

1) Swans have the biggest crowd in Sydney this weekend.
2) Swans, premiers, playing an out of town team with nRL games on in Sydney, will have a higher crowd than the Storm's first home game as premiers, against an out of town team, with NO AFL games on in Melbourne.

Raiderdave? you just summed up how naive you are,
if you move across town to be closer to work? you move in to a house with your girlfriend/wife, you buy/move house to a better area, all different suburbs to the team you follow, do then change the football team you support?
i spent my early years in the SE of melbourne, then lived in Essendon, then moved to Queensland for work, do i change my team from Essendon to the Lions?
ps yes i did try and follow the NRl, but found the game boring, union has it over league for entertainment

NRL crowds after round 3 are the worst in 9 years Dave....

What was last night? 80k v 11k

Oh dear

and if we'd sold our game out
it still would have been 80k V to just 20K ... from you halfwitted shirt lifters

I asked a question
perhaps you can answer it

the NRL will be well ahead of their 2012 tally going into rnd 7

will the VFL be in the same position ?

Wow, that's convincing. You half filled a small stadium

The AFL will climb steadily back up to previous levels which will be astounding given it will include more than double the number games in expansion states.

Wow, just wow

Wow, that's convincing. You half filled a small stadium

you'd of been impressed if we did fill it ?
no ?
my point is made then

The AFL will climb steadily back up to previous levels which will be astounding given it will include more than double the number games in expansion states.

enough of your but but butting cockhead , thats no more valid a reason for declining crowds in your dying sport then our code playing in tiny stadiums restricting our ability to increase our average
answer the question

will the VFL be well ahead of their 2012 tally going into rnd 7... like the NRL will be

they won't will they ?

the only place your sport is even holding its own ... is in Vic
hell only 39K attended the western derby in WA

10K seats were vacant in Adelaide

the Wions can't attract 20K members , yet less then 6 years ago they had 30K
if the Thuns ( who had an average of 20K just 2 years ago ) keep their average above 10K this year they'll be doing well
the swines . even as the premiers
will stroll out to a near 2/3 empty ANZ .. a ground they filled 2/3 regularly just a few years ago
the Midgets have just 3500 members in western sydney ... & regularly play to crowds of less then 5k there despite 40 to 50 million spent on their set up

when will you clowns understand
you're game is in decline ... huge decline

its had its day ..
Vicky kicky has tried & failed pretty much everywhere except its very own backyard in Melb & some success in WA & SA which is faltering too

its gone about 2cm outward since 1896
the reality is stark & harsh

but one that must be dealt with

......Raiderdave is back again so desperate to tell us that AFL is dying how bout you look at this http://stats.rleague.com/AFL/crowds/summary.html. Rd 1 crowds up 29%. Hahaha you are such an arseclown, spruking BS and trying to pass ur self off as someone with more than one brain cell- but the truth is that poor cell got belted out of him when getting some guys head stuck up his arse playing RL handball. Basic game basic supporters. Can't accept the truth RL expanding to a Sydney suburb near you!!!

If you cared to look at the averages we are up 29% thats the +- sign at the end, NRL got 158k, AFL got 365k.......hahaha yeah Raiderdave dave AFL is dying, go back to whatever hole you crawled out of. No one is interested in ur pathetic comp, not least the rest of Australia. The population of Aus is increasing every year but you arn't growing. Most kids give up handball and play a real sport except some Sydney kids. RL expanding to a Syd suburb near you!

its very funny when NRL supporters claim 365k is a poor round of crowds, especially when many of their rounds barely break 100k!

Keep it up though eels, its very entertaining!

Wow you really are thick....

Its is not the average you look at, have to look at what your crowds were at same time last year, and it is down no matter how you spin it....

AFL after round 1

2012 367,792 Ave 40,866
2013 365,867 Ave 40,652

NRL After round 4

2013 total 585,864, average 18,308
2012 total 539,480, average 16,859

NRL on the up AFL in decline.

Them the facts Swannie get use to the decline.....

on the corresponding round the victorian game is down on last year
as it is dying

Sydneysiders we were told were oh so very excited about the swines bumbling their way to a tainted title

in 2007 63K would flock to games to watch the fumbling & missing at ANZ

in 2013
padded with stadium members & freebies handed out like dominos vouchers
they got 23K
