a bad descision by the RLC. they should have moved to have two new teams into the comp in 2015 (WA & 2nd Brisbane team) and another expansion in 2017 (2nd NZ team and Central Coast or Central Queensland). There really needs to be a new team in WA, Brisbane and NZ.

Why? Got bored with you old team?

I really hope wa get an nrl team - it'll suck the gutz out of the code.
Tony sage says the break even point for Glory is 13,500 @ Perth Oval.

When the nrl gets ratings of 2k , you just gotta wonder what people were thinking.

.
Nice try Cos.

What? Melbourne isnt segregated into little areas of support like the nRL. I live in the outer south east of Melbourne and I personally know at least 30 Geelong supporters who live in my area. A state team like Tasmania however would be completely different. Not many people in Melbourne would support Tasmania leaving their support to their state only. There arent enough people in either the north or south of Tasmania to support an AFL team.
You're an idiot! You talked about Geelong. The majority of their supporters live there. Hobart has the same population, so it'll work! The rest of the state can cover any shortfall. So lets' go back and ask why the AFL doesn't have a team based down there? This time don't make excuses!
A high proportion of their fans live there but a significant proportion live in Melbourne. Just like Collingwood has supporters in every suburb in Melbourne

There are many threads on this topic on BF and the majority of people agree Tasmania is too small for a team. If their entire population was in one city or region it would be different but theyre not, and they dont even get along.
Collingwood is a unique case so that's not a barometer. There are nine AFL clubs in Melbourne, right? Population of Melbourne is 4 million if I remember. 9/4 mil is 444,444. Population of Tasmania is over 500,000.

You just got owned.

lol, all these vfl experts.

Why would the NRL expand now when they need to spend money on the clubs that have been run since 1995 on chook raffles?

I know why, but thank god the ARLC are not listening to the idiots from other sports, the NRL could've ended up like the vFL with floggings every week and teams tanking or they could of ended up like the A League putting dots on maps because it looks pretty.

Sure, but Melbourne's population is located within a 50km radius. Tasmania's population is spread significantly and is essentially split in half on opposite ends of an island. It takes 2 and a half hours to drive from Hobart to Launceston. Therefore there is no comparison to Melbournes teams at all is there [-X

Add to that the North and South of Tasmania fight constantly. If a team was put in Hobart the North wouldnt support them, and visa versa.

SO, before you claim ownage, try at least having some...

An AFL team would overcome any obstacles. Are you saying that Tasmania isn't an AFL state anymore? Wow, maybe the NRL can jump on the sporting starved public down there /sarcasm

Tasmania's not that big. People will travel when they want to.

The Glory say they break even on 13.5k. dave, you understand that.
You'r flying in two nrl sides, paying nrl salaries, nrl salaries to a lot larger number of -players, coaches and hangers on;
and on top of that the nrl have been heavily promoting the match on all media.

You can add up dave ? That's a hell of a lot of adding up to subtract from the income.
No wonder the nrl is such a poor financial state - can't even add up.

.

I don't believe you'e got that quite right.
Most people on BF want Tasmania to have an AFL team because they "deserve" it.
Tasmania is marginal because they don't have the population conveniently concrentrated in one city,
but with the right model it could work. The importance of having the right stadium agreement is crucial.
From a population point of view Geelong is marginal but I understand that they are profitable.
The GC was profitbale in it's first year because it has a good stadium agreement.
Taking those two clubs as models I believe you could have a successful Tasmanian AFL team.

.
Nice try Cos.

How? Who is going to travel a 5 hour round trip from North to South Tasmania, especially for a night game? The obstacles are too big, hence they dont have a team yet.

By the way, they have their own ARs comp. They arent starved for ARs at all.
