Re: Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions
Anybody who believes that a 9th game has no value seriously needs to think about it a bit more. Haven't you been paying attention through the whole Channel 9 debt crisis saga about just how damned important the NRL is to 9?
Since the last deal we went from 7 games to 8 games after the Titans came in and we're now looking at a total package around the $1.025 with another $200m+ still to come.
When the next auction comes around does anyone seriously think the networks are going to say - hey well there's this 9th game but we don't really want that so we'll let one of the other guys have it for pennies...?
The whole "9th game has no value" is pure spin to get you to buy into the no expansion agenda.

Spin from your own commision and the broadcaster of choice. The reason you got the money you did is because you sold your arse to channel 9.Ten offered about 750 with contra for coverage similar to the AFL. Channel 9 only sees value in 1 live match a week FACT.So it would seem if you want coverage similar to the AFL it will hurt the bottom line not improve it.justanotherleaguefan wrote:Anybody who believes that a 9th game has no value seriously needs to think about it a bit more. ch7 and 9 have stated they lose money on both deals. Why would 9 pay more for more games if they already lose money on 3 games? The AFL did an amazing job getting the cahs they did, plus 4 live FTA games in every state, plus simulcast live on fox for every game. The nRLs deal is a shocker all things considered. Ch9 were desperate so they paid up but they royally screwed the NRL with shocking FTA coverage.

When I said homelands I meant the homeland of the sports! You watch the crowds of the AFL derbies in Sydney and Brisbane plummet! Same thing would happen in Melbourne if a second team was there, and the NRL know it! So Channel 9's opinion is irrelevant! In fact if we had an extra game to offer we might have been able to get a better deal than we got!pookus wrote:Channel nine straight out said there is no demand on their network for an extra game of league and I think they are in the best place to judge.Derbies by definition are in homelands.lol Derbies work when both teams are competitive and good solid respect and hate is held for eachother. It takes time which the AFL has. If you have a look around striker the AFL are not in the business of letting their fledgling clubs struggle on the field.GC and GWS will be powerful on the field certainty.Thats when you will see something that the northern states only taste 3 times a year.Real rivalry real passion and a packed house something the NRL rarely provides
Re: Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions
If Channel 9s' opinion is irrelevant then why are you moving your grand final against the wishes of most. And why do you have only ONE game of live football. Channel nine is your supreme commander. lol . Your predictions on the crowds dwindling is baseless. With success they'll grow Brisbane and Sydney prove this. The question isn't whether these derbies will be successful that's a Monty. It is whether the NRL can match us when it decides to man up and grow. How long before we see an NRL derby in Melbourne. The same day I start shooting bacon from the sky I suggest.Striker wrote:When I said homelands I meant the homeland of the sports! The AFL has no chance in New South Wales or Queensland! They are being arrogant dicks and it'll kill them. The ARLC has done the right thing keeping the club numbers where they are. The AFL should have done the same thing! My prediction of dwindling crowds isn't baseless. Look at what happened to the Giants in one season! Look at what happened to the Suns in season two! Both DOWN!
The ONLY reason Nine is getting it's way is because the deal was on their terms. I said we got diddled! But it doesn't change the fact that their opinion is irrelevant.

I live right on the goldcoast so my opinion >>>> every nrl hack on here
Goldcoast suns should flogg the titans, and here's why
- Believe it or not, but the suns get better exposure up here then the titans
- Crowd numbers were slightly rising towards the end of the year
- Suns will be vsing collingwood next year at metricon "that is garunteed a full house"
- I have met many casual nrl fans who actually enjoyed watching the suns more then the titans.

maybe in sydney but not in queensland you hack, we are bandwagoners, back in 2002 the AFL grand final rated 750k in queensland alone, and after brisbane went out of form, so did the ratings.Striker wrote:The AFL has no chance in New South Wales or Queensland! The Swans are the highest attending team in Sydney. The Lions have very healthy crowds and were beating the broncos when they were a decent team. Id say thats a lot better than no chance.
Further, the Warriors dropped their crowds from 24k in their first year to 8k in 4 years. The storm also dropped significantly from their first year, despite regular success. No chance???

yes ..... theres something to be said for someone who prefers to watch a team get beaten by 80 each week .... over a team that at least competes & wins quite a few games as well
yes I'd prefer the team of bumbling ********* too ...

the swines have had crowds plummeting 5 out of the last 6 years
VFL TV audiences in Sydney are at their lowest levels in 15 years ...
the paddle pop wions have lost 50% of their support ( attendance & membership) since 2005
& are stoney.. flat .. broke .....
the thuns are the worst sports franchise in australia ... 3 wins in year 1... & not an ounce of improvement in year 2.. with 3 wins again
they lost 33% of their support ... in one year

the only comfort the Thuns have is that their crown as the worst sports franchise in Australia will be taken off them .... by another VFL side in the Midgets
as they will take woeful to a whole new level in the next few years
yep ... the Victorian game has ... no chance ... in NSW & QLD
nothing truer

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions
Titans to keep their average around the 15K mark as they'll probably be there or there abouts again in 2013 , I think they'll be in the hunt for the 8 for a large part of the season but similar to this year .. not quite make it , I think they'll win 8 to 10 games & finish 10th
the Thuns to struggle to stay above 10K ..... as they'll be bottom 4 again in 2013
they may pick up a win or 2 more next year , but essentially be way off the pace ... cannon fodder for most teams .. most games .. simply as average as they come.
its just the way its gunna be

You must watch a lot of AFL to be such an expert.

1)The Swans crowds have not dropped 5 of the last 6 years. You keep saying that, it doesn't make it true. http://stats.rleague.com/AFL/crowds/swans.html
2) Sydney FTATV numbers were down, you'd almost think the AFL had moved to a digital channel....
3) The Suns, while not improving their win/loss ratio, were a much better side in 2012. They've traded very well, and will see improvement in 2013. The AFL's 2013 fixture has ensured that crap teams play crap teams, so the Suns will be up against teams of similar ability. Also, and just for the yucks, you'll be interested to know that the last time the Raiders managed a crowd average bigger than the Suns' average in 2013 (13,645), was 1995

4) 2 figures a trend does not make
5) Looking at their fixture, the Suns could very well have 6 wins by the mid-season break.
