Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions

Post by Drac »

The Suns won year one, with the Titans taking the honours in year two. Who will win the battle of the GC crowds in 2013?

The novelty factor is well and truly done for the Suns, and if they don't deliver on field in 2013, things could get grim. But with pickups like Murphy and now Broughton (for pick #37 no less!), the debut of Jaeger Omera and the return of Bock and Rischatelli, they are every chance of rising up the ladder and rising fast.

The Titans have more or less discarded Searle, which could see the return of working famalies that had abandoned them recently after the CoE debacle. They've got some fantastic deals with junior memberships for 2013, but on the other hand look to be losing popular Captain Scott Prince, and are sticking with unpopular coach John Cartright. Time will tell if Dave Taylor is a better pickup than Jamal Idris.

I'm predicting that the Suns will peg one back to go 2-1 in the battle of the Gold Coast.

2013 Prediction
Suns: 16k average
Titans: 14k average

Secondary prediction: Dave claims the Suns figures are 'fudgey wudgeyed'. There will be emoticons also.

Discuss.

If the Suns KPP's remain injury free, they should double their win count for the year over 2012. The two late season home wins against GWS and Carlton were perfectly timed for the club. Now that the locals have experienced their side winning matches at home, this should entice them and the people who jumped off in 2012 to support the number one team on the Gold Coast into the future.

As for the declining and debt-ridden Titans, things don't look so good. Once the Suns make the finals that could be it for the them.

I have a good feeling about the Suns in 2013. They've traded VERY well, have some good players available again, and another preseason will do them wonders. Will be interesting to see the fixture, i'm sure the AFL will take care of them with some blockbuster opponents. Also, i'm not sure it's what the AFL wanted/planned for, but it looks as though both QLD teams could be rising into finals contention around the same time over the 2013/14 period. Imagine what a QLD derby final would do for the game up there.

Suns won't make the finals in 2013, but Brisbane could well sneak into 7th-8th pos. Finals should definitely be on the cards for both in 2014 though. I don't think Metricon is big enough to host a finals game which will make an interesting situation.

The Suns will fold first before they make the finals. The Gold Coast just isn't AFL ready. They have Brisbane and that's all they can handle.

You truly underestimate the resolve of the AFL.Was Sydney ready was brisbane.Of course not. What you idiots dont seem to understand is that you are not in the fight if you are not there. Noone said it would be easy if they wanted that they would have put a third team in perth and one in tassie. But they decided to do the brave thing. All the great wars have been won by the brave. Now that the NRL have decided no expansion for 5 years it would seem there only option is to bunker down and ride out the storm.Good luck with that.lol

One club outside it's home can work. Two won't. It's that simple. The NRL isn't expanding because we have to consolidate first and for no other reason.

How do you work that out where is the precedent. I would say the opposite is true. You have not arrived anywhere until you can play a home derby to passionate fans. The AFL knows this and there will be a day when these games will be a reality in every state in AUS.The NRL are decades from ever seeing this happen.Imagine giants swans prelim final 80000 sydney siders cheereing the great Australian game.30 years ago it wasnt even a dream now it is almost touchable. So the NRL can talk our game down as much as they like but the reality is they are there to stay. And just like the Swans and Brisbane they will prosper.

If that was true there would be a second NRL team in Melbourne. But guess what? There isn't! That home derby RS doesn't work in reality. 80,000 at a Sydney AFL derby final?? You're dreaming!!

The reason there is no second team in Melbourne is because the NRL cant afford it .Whos gonna pay for it.And I dont know if you watch much sport but all the biggest clashes inluding NRL are home derbies of some kind. And the Sydney thing might be a dream but it is possible. The NRL are nothing until Melbourne which will be Australias biggest city in the next 20 years has 2 teams. The AFL knew this about sydney the difference being the AFL has the dollars and the support of the networks to do this.No ridiculous private ownership just spending millions on giving sydney siders what they deserve proper representation in the biggest comp in the land.So pray all you like for the downfall of AFL expansion but ive been following this sport long enough to say it will fight and eventually prevail.

The NRL think they can't afford it. They can and it will be the broadcasters who should be paying for it; again, we got diddled in that deal!! Derbies only work in homelands.

Channel nine straight out said there is no demand on their network for an extra game of league and I think they are in the best place to judge.Derbies by definition are in homelands.lol Derbies work when both teams are competitive and good solid respect and hate is held for eachother. It takes time which the AFL has. If you have a look around striker the AFL are not in the business of letting their fledgling clubs struggle on the field.GC and GWS will be powerful on the field certainty.Thats when you will see something that the northern states only taste 3 times a year.Real rivalry real passion and a packed house something the NRL rarely provides
