yes .... you'd think Sydneysiders had never seen a Swines side in a GF

lets be clear here
2005 1 Million Sydneysiders watched the Swines win the GF
2006 700K watched them again in the GF
300K Sydneysiders couldn't give a stuff the following year 8-[

& in 2012... we have a swines side not anywhere near as popular as they were back then

now about 300K watch the flogball GF in Sydney regardless of who's playing
I'd say doubling that would be a good effort & all that could be expected from a sport on the slide in our nations largest city
out of interest Dave, what is the highest ratings the storm has had in Melbourne for their multiple GF appearances?

Fact is the Swans will steal some of the NRLs GF media in Sydney and the AFL GF will rate its socks off because for the first time in many years the game will involve teams from more than one city.
So based upon your logic, Melbourne being in the NRL GF should steal away some of that AFL media, especially considering only 1 melbourne team is in the AFL GF. Good point XMAN, enjoy the NRL GF. Get those ratings up in Melbourne for us =D>
Sure it will. Difference being we don't care in Melbourne. Most Melbournians are fine with the storm getting some media. The code wars is the obsession of the Sydney media, and the code jealousy is almost exclusively Sydney RLs hatred of Melbournes AFL. You don't see media here complaining about the NRL. Why would we? Their almost irrelevant.

The storm have had a number of GF appearances lately. It's nice to finally see the AFLs GF ratings peak again.

you don't see the media in Melbourne complaining about the NRL because

we don't steal your players
we don't lie about our paticipation numbers in Vic
we don't bribe schools to force your kids to play our game
we don't steal council grounds & restrict other sports from using them in Melb
we don't take rate payers money from councils to play games
we don't fudge our crowds to appear bigger in Melb
we don't never predicted the Storm would be a tsunami & take over in Melb

Yes interesting chat folks.

Most importantly i think we should be measuring trends and growth in relation to this years grand finals audiences. Raiderdave has provided numerous figures which indicate AFL audiences both on tv and in attendance at the match have been dwindling.

Given Sydneys population has expanded by approx 300,000-400,000 we'd expect a higher tv audience in syd for this years gf. And we'd expect similar to happen in Vic re the NRL's GF audience. What do our AFL fans think?

oh dear marcus

what a scared little tool you are .... you can't even read the ratings correctly you are that petrified at the thought the NRL will do better in Melbourne
then the vicky kicky in Sydney next week
wot a pathetic piece of sh.it you are

here are the ratings from this site for the 2009 GF
Grand Final - Melbourne vs Parramatta
Pre Match 9 SU 1,328,000 665,000 283,000 326,000 20,000 35,000
MEL vs PAR 9 SU 2,528,000 1,163,000 682,000 563,000 54,0000 66,000

http://www.talkingfooty.com/tv_ratings_2009.php
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 5783107883

2009 685K ... Bearsy figures are always wrongly slanted down for NRL & up for VFL
2008 492K.... mainly due to dopey Melbournians not knowing the game was on at 5pm... not 7 like it had been for 07 & 06..
a lot tuned in only to see it was over already ... as we know ...vics are as dumb as dog cr@p   ...

2007 743K ...
2006 903K...

i read somewhere years ago that the 1999 NRL Grand Final also pulled 600K in Melbourne ... I'll have to see if I can find it

like I said
700K average for the Storm in Melbourne for GF's ... and I expect something similar on Sunday

Yes, my mistake. I read the regionals result for VIC.

Still not sure where your 900k results are. The ones on this website show 682k and 492k. #-o

Disappointing GF audiences for both AFL and NRL. Disappointment for both the AFL and NRL, and their broadcast partners, Nine and Ten, with audiences for the biggest matches of the season falling short of expectations. The one-sided AFL Grand Final was watched by an average 2.542 million people in the five major metro markets; the regional figures will be available tomorrow. That five city figure is the lowest AFL audience since the present ratings system started in 2001 and a massive 600,000 people, or nearly 20% lower, than the epic 2006 battle between West Coast and Sydney, which averaged 3.15 million people. It was a disappointing result for Ten and the AFL, who would have thought that with a Victorian team back in the grand final it would have seen a higher figure. But having Sydney in the final game of the season matters more: just 321,000 people watched the game in the Swans home town, compared to the 763,000 in 2006 and over 900,000 in 2005. The Melbourne audience of 1.214 million was solid enough. Despite the poor performance of Port, the Adelaide audience was 377,000 people, up 50,000 on last year’s telecast. The game drew an average audience of 385,000 in Perth and 270,000 in Brisbane. Last night’s NRL match was also down, with 2.389 million people watching the Melbourne Storm easily account for Manly. That was 163,000 down on 2006 game between the Storm and Brisbane — and was the lowest since 2004. The lower audience will not be greeted warmly at the NRL and Nine which had hoped the presence of a Sydney team would lift the number of viewers. It did in Sydney, where 913,000 people watched, up on 2006’s audience of 804,000. But a disappointing 723,000 people watched in Melbourne this year compared to the 903,000 who watched the Storm lose last year’s final. 568,000 people watched in Brisbane this year. The live broadcast to Adelaide (95,000) and Perth (89,000) wasn’t successful, but the NRL broadcast did help Nine win Melbourne on the night. The figures for both the AFL and NRL don’t reflect the hundreds of thousands of people watching in pubs and clubs across the country, or the extra people in homes.  — Glenn Dyer

Unlike all day action on Channel 7 for AFL Grand Final day right across this country, The Farmer Wants a Wife takes precedence in Melbourne according to the tv guide.
