That combined with live TV of every game means crowds fell. Are they atrocious? Hmmm, still almost double the NRL so Im quite certain no one is worried.

But as I said, as these teams become competitive, and the draft and salary cap ensures they will, the crowds will stabilise and begin to grow again.

If there was no change in cercumstances, or the TV ratings and memberships had also dipped Id be worried. But theyve both had a healthy increase.

The AFL knew these teams would take years to become competitive and to gain support. The swans and lions/bears were basket cases for many of their first few years and they've now got crowd averages and memberships that embarrass almost all NRL clubs.
