The 30% increase in AFL viewership this year is due to live AFL and one extra game. The only live games in the past were the 5 foxtel games. AFL now has 9 live games with the friday night live getting a big increase. You are right in that there has not been a sudden increase in fans. What there has been is more fans watching games because of the live content.
NSW/Qld has 11.8 million compared to Vic/WA/SA/Tas with 10.1 million but I would say that the AR penertration is a lot higher in NSW/Qld then the penertration of RL in Vic/SA/WA/Tas. Im happy to call it even, without including Rugby union.
Wow i think this is the first time a AFL fan has admitted that the increase in viewership for the AFL in 2012 is mainly due to increased coverage and more live games.
This also explains why the AFL crowds are in decline.
Well done Pies, you are saying what i been saying for the last 4 months and i am still not able to get through to Xman and the other clowns.

of course the increase is due to live coverage, but also earlier coverage. Last year the AFL started at 8.40 and didnt finish until 11.15. Thats just too late to maintain a consistent rating over 3 hrs. This year most of the game is in prime time so the average audience is way bigger.
The other major reasons for a dramatic increase in viewers:
- for the first time Perth can see AFL live on friday and saturday nights. They always had games delayed by 3 hrs. A heap of them wouldnt even bother watching. Now they are and in decent numbers on foxtel.
- There is clearly a decent market for AFL in NSW and QLD and these people are watching big games on Foxtel. From memory they didnt get these games consistently last year. They just got the swans and lions on FTA mainly.
Sorry boys, we got the cash, the much better coverage, and now we're getting the ratings. =D>
oh so its not the un counted regionals as you were saying had to be the reason before .... its now something else as equally ridiculous
wot a load of cr@p
live coverage ..... increasing the total audience by nearly 40%
6 out of 8 games live in 2011
but every game shown live in its respective market anyway... but now people in perth can watch a game not involving their side live
400K more veiwers previously no where to be seen ... appear
perth ... perth .. its nearly all perth
why do you lie
They always had games delayed by 3 hrs.
as per last year Perth has the Friday final at 6.30pm their time ... or 8.30pm our time ... just an hr delayed ... NOT 3
& its LIVE on FTA on sat .. as it was in 2011
this probably explains why fta figures remain the same in Perth in 2012 .. no change
& ...subscription rates in perth are still as low as 17% .. & barely rose at all in 2012
you can't use them for the 400K extra veiwers for last Friday night ... nah it wasn't them
oh oh oh ... NSW & QLD ... they must be coming from there too
yes .. of course they are
only 34% of people in these states have pay ... & ratings on FTA .. which 100% of the population has .. can be as low as 25K or less for vicky kicky games not involving the swines or paddle pop lions
so of course its natural to assume that 75K are now watching it on pay... or some reason .. I dunno why ... but its feasible
no it would be more believable if you said the 400K did in fact just pop up out of the ground .. then the above hilarious reasons you've got here marcus
I have never read a bigger load of baloney
nah its obvious the people who counted crowds at Midgits & Thuns home games this year are also in charge of compiling the VFL ratings for foxtel
