Eels,
I would agree that clearly this thread has not served the purpose for which I set it up. I wanted to get an answer to a question. I agree with you on that one for sure.

Its clear by your reactions this thread has not served its purpose and has actually backfired in showing NRL is watched by more people in more states around the World.
No Pies try's to paint a picture for us, but now i am painting a different one.... my picture is certainly making Pies picture look small in comparison...![]()
Currently we have Pro players from England Millions, PNG 7million, Fiji 5million, Somoa, Tonga, NZ 6Million, NSW 7Million, QLD 5Million, WA 1.8 Million = total population of these area's far and away outstrips the likes of VIC, WA, SA, TAS.
NRL loved and watched by more people in more states and towns around the world.. =D>
Now dem the Factualls....![]()
All good mate here are some sites for you new thread where I will be happy to compare. By the way the AFL has players from all of you listed countries. The highlighted players are the current ones. Good luck.

piesman2011 wrote:In the AFL there are close to 100 players from Qld and NSW (or so I hear). So here is a question for RL supporters. How many current listed NRL players have spent a majority of their junior development in AFL states (Vic, SA, WA and Tas)? [/size] Im looking for current players from NRL clubs who spent 10 years + of their life before they joined the NRL in the back waters of Australia. I would prefer that if they played RL in Victoria for example that they didn't just move to Sydney at say age 10 and start playing league (not that there is anything wrong with that). I just like to know how many NRL have been developed from us Southern states (sic). Show me some details or websites as well (I will believe wikipedia even) that show their history.
I dont understand? Current Victorian NRL players? Current SA NRL players? Current WA NRL players? Current Tas NRL players? I cant see any names. I can only see continual angry rant. I asked for names with links. Look at the above if you can mate.

Mate your asking for players outside of RL states? Who the fack is going to do that sort of research for you? Clearly you are a lunatic, do the research yourself....

BTW you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the AFL have more players from QLD, NSW then RL has in WA,SA VIC......

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Yep no answer and im the one with the comprehension problem.
The best I got was do the research myself. Which is sort of an answer I guess.
I dont really care who has more players from which states. I just wanted to get a few names or an indication that league is developing a few players in Australia from Vic, Tas, WA and SA. Instead I got a response which I would have expected if I had assassinated BIlly Slater. It is just sport and this is talking footy fight club in which we can have a little robust discussion about different codes. I guess being called names and told I cant understand english is just the standard response by some on this site.](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
I have been seriously for the last 30 minutes looking for one Western Australian player who plays in the NRL. Now I know that there must be a few because Eels had Western Australia on his list of places NRL players come from. However I cant find any names. Can someone please help me. Im not trolling I just want some answers.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Surely the point of the thread is to demonstrate the penetration of the rival codes within Australia. The English have managed to expand their sports better than any nation. League is one of those sports. The Nrl are a part of english expansion as are all the other countries that play the sport. But AFL is Australia's game is it's origins lay.in a humble park by the yarra. And by any measure you want to use our game has expanded within Australia faster than any imported product. The English can claim their game has penetration in the oceania but the NRL can claim 2 states. The numbers show that apart from where they knew no better they have expanded within these shores very little.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
I got one possibility Aaron Whitchurch was born in Fremantle. But I cant get much more information then that. Did he live in Fremantle for his first 15 year or did he move to Brisbane at a young age. Does anyone know? Looks like he played for Stanley RIvers junior club which is in Qld so I guess he might not have spent that much time in WA.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Thanks Eels for you research on your new thread. I have looked at the following players so far:
Sam McKendry who seams to have played his junior footy in NZ
Justin Poore who seams to have played his footy at Endeavour Sports High School in NSW
Bryson Goodwin who played his juniors with Cronulla Sutherland in Sydney.
All have been listed as born in WA but im not sure how long they stayed in WA for.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Jeremy Smith played for Altona RL club in Melbourne but he was born in NZ. He might be a possibility in terms of a Victorian raised RL player.
Gareth Widdop moved to Melbourne at age 16 so I guess you cant really say that he was raised in Melbourne. He does play for the Storm which and has been filling in for Billy while he has been injured (I do watch the Storm although they haven't been playing well lately) so hes a top bloke but I wouldnt say that he is Melbourne raised.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Despite a bit of help at the moment I still have my total at 0 for current RL players who are raised in Vic. SA, WA and Tas. There are a few comming through the ranks which will be good when they get there. But I would have to say at the moment RL is a bit behind AR in terms of development in Southern Australia compared to AR development in North Eastern Australia. Hopefully with more money comming in next year (TV rights) the NRL get a move on in developing RL talent. I would love to see the day when Victoria have its own RL state of origin side.

Re: Current NRL players from AFL states.
Looking at the Toyota cup might give us a better idea. I know some juniors from SG balls teams from WA and VIC have been signed by some clubs.
