The comment was in reply to a thread about the uncertainties that lye ahead. It was a negative NRL article but I suppose that's alright.

AFL lied about how much was in the future.

according to one article. And ill take an annual report over single article any day of the week.

AFL profit has been less than ours in recent.

The AFL is a non profit organisation so who gives a shit.

Our revenue has increased more over the past four years than yours has over the past five.

While still trailing the AFL by 180 million a year in revenue. And not getting closer in recent years. Something you constantly ignore.

Or is it the $80m in hand outs the AFL has to give to its clubs each year that you objet to.

The AFLs money comes from the clubs and players. Frankly dont give a shit about the handouts - particulartly when most of it isnt actually a handout and this remark alone shows your fucking ignorance of AFL finances.

The payments listed in different categories: grants/ prize money/ other/. ' Other' seems to get larger every year. the papers all seem to refer to it as handouts. So if its not club hand outs then what is it?

The papers also talk about huge bank loans the clubs have taken out with the AFL going guarantor on.

Their figures that they went to the bank when going for a loan would have been fudged as well!
They have sponsorship few worth millions and hundreds of millions in revenue, but a credit line of Alan bond or Christopher skase

lol no it wasnt. The AFL future fund is still listed in the Annual Reports as of last year.

Sure they do. But they more the AFL makes the more they distribute which is why profits arent necessarily profits - and before distributions the AFL makes a shit load more in profit than the NRL.

AFL operating surplus 2016 - $331 million. NRL operating surplus - 186 million.

How about you fucking read what i apparently have to tell you every goddamn year. Other includes signage and pourage rights at Etihad and the MCG. Pronotional subisidies for games taken to the NT and northern qld. It includes AFL membership disbursements back to the clubs. Still other payments also include compensation for the AFLs manipulation of the fixture and forcing clubs to use venues they dont want to.

And then yes, some of it is bail out money. No different to what the NRL has done by taking over Newcastle or Gold Coast or whatever the fuck it is doing at Wests and St George.

The papers arent wrong. The largest loan is for about 8 million. Debt is not a bad thing though, as long as its serviceable.

Actually, those 2 clubs play in Melbourne so they must play at either Etihad or the MCG. In fact the lions have many members in Melbourne. AFL members, who nominate one of these 2 clubs pay their membership fees to the AFL, who then distribute it to the appropriate club. Yes these 2 clubs get more distributions than others, but so what? The AFL earn enough to support expansion clubs who require assistance. It'd be pretty short-sighted if they just let them dissolve. Keeping them going is beneficial to the local grass roots game, so the money is well spent in the end

They allow for a certain revenue each year and basically spend all of it, other than maybe a small proportion they save for a rainy day. If costs are higher in one year they make a loss, if not they make a profit. There's no point keeping money to themselves, theyre far better off pumping the money into expansion and development, which will expand the game and eventually bring more revenue

A classic case of calling it before the AFL signed its deal - and to be repeated later on by Gallop in the early 2000's. lol.

In 1993 they signed a deal worth 80 million over 7 years (11.42 million per year)

From 1993 to 1998, the AFL made 17 million per year from 7, and in 1999, the AFL made 40 million from 7. The AFL received 102 million in its first 6 years from Seven, to the 80 million from Nine for league over 7 years

The Super league war began In 94.' So if the AFL signed a contract later in 91'than perhaps the AFL were the ones catching up. Especially in light of the fact that the report commissioned by the AFL/VFL in the 80's told them in no uncertain terms they were in deep shit financially.
