How did a RL player beat a fumbler in a kicking challenge

easy. Make it so simple that the only thing distinguishing the skills were minor accuracy errors. For example get your average A grade basketballer and an NBA pro to face off on free throws. Both should make 8 out of 10 easy. If the A grader hits 9 and the pro 8 this doesnt show the A grader is a better shot. It shows the test was too simple.

If they really wanted to show the difference in kicking skill they should have made the players kick on the run and from outside 50 metres over players on the goal line. In fact from memory none of the non-AFL players could kick 50 metres but they counted the goals that rolled through. This just doesnt happen in set shots at goal.

Funny enough two ex RL players in Tiqiri and Sailor came near last, as did almost every decent sized athlete like Ling. As Ive said in another post, the comp heavily favoured smaller athletes like Slater. Furthermore, many of the events werent what Id call a test of athletic ability. Golf, car driving, free throws, jet skiing.....FFS, what do these events prove??

He was playing rugby union. Maybe if he was playing RL he would have had the skill and endurance required. dito sailor.

Yeah there were some events that related to fitness, strength and stamina, but there were way too many meaningless events that were irrelevant.

Interesting how RL came 4th in the 3rd season. What happened? Did RL lose all ability in 1 year? Or maybe selecting a single player to represent an entire code is BS and is more about the player than anything else

Have you seen Roger Tuivasa Sheck. Has the best side step in game.
Also Jack Bird, Matt Moylan, James Tedesco, Moses Mbye, Greg Inglis, Valentine Holmes, Josh Mansour.
I could go on forever with listing players that would match Slater.

Probably not many AFL players could I agree though.

Haha what makes it worse is the fact the two Rugby League players outside Slater were OLD.

Both had been playing before the year 2000 and had been and played in another representative side in the Wallabies for near a decade before coming back to RL in Tuquri's case, Dell played for 4-5 years for the wallabies too, he then also had a two year ban for cocaine use on top. These guys were not in their prime being young athletes, they were over the hill

With all the talk of which code has the superior skills, Buddy Franklin now on 37 goals for the season so far and tracking towards 100 goals. It got me thinking has a rugby league player EVER scored 100 tries in a season??? After all all they have to do is fall on the ground over a line that is 68 meters long - Franklin has to kick the ball usually under pressure and as the other night showed sometimes 70 meters from goal!!!! That's almost the length of a rugby league pitch, so I went looking and found that not only have NONE even achieved half that in a season with more games in a year but also the highest of all time was Kevin Irvine with 212 back in 1973 for his ENTIRE CAREER!! How incredible pitiful are these RL players at their own game that the nearest is Steve Menzies with 180 in 2008? No wonder no one bothers to turn up to a match!

If you read some of the posts by pussy it seems those in times gone by did score more often - I watched a GF a couple of months ago between Paramatta and I think St.George at the SCG (80's) - it was very fast and free flowing and frequent tries, the players didn't all look like weight lifters like today. Could it be the direction of RL has resulted in lower scores and more of a dour contest?

Yes I do not like the way the NRL is going, and players baulking up.

but this is slowly changing, with the reduction of the Interchange to 8 and further to 6

Players will be a lot more leaner in years to come, but still built in away.

The AFL has suffered from this defensive slowing too. The Swans were the ones to blame as they started it and experienced some success, so others copied. However this year the trend is correcting, mainly due to rule changes that have reduced the congestion and stoppages
