The AFL is on the verge of announcing an historic new broadcast deal potentially worth $2 billion over six years with the Seven Network and Foxtel starting in 2017.

6 years champ...............maths not Melbournes strong point ehhhh....

In the restructured deal long-time AFL broadcaster the Seven Network is expected to broadcast less games but continue to hold exclusive rights to the grand final, which would remain a daytime event despite a strong push by Seven to stage the game at night or in twilight.

However, Channel Seven will not television four games every weekend, with Foxtel expected to take the spare Saturday afternoon games televised when there is no Thursday night fixture. Seven will also televise all public holiday games as part of its premium package and hold the right to Good Friday football should it eventuate. .....Wow leave Saturday FTA to the NRL, yep Gill is a smart cookie.

With the NRL announcing its bombshell new four-year free-to-air agreement with Channel Nine last week, stunned and disappointed News Corporation chiefs have appeared determined to reach a deal with the AFL. News chief Rupert Murdoch met McLachlan in Sydney last week, with McLachlan and the AFL's bankers running negotiations over the weekend. Fucking Caro no fucking idea, its 5 years numb nuts. =D>

Wow less games on FTA, yeah great move McLachlan..

AFL selling out its fans for a little more $ which will be less then the NRL.

OMG I am in stitches

Caro Wilson is gospel to Bea............... =D> =D>

For your sake Fumblers you want to hope this is a BS piece by Caro because if it is not your gggggggggoooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeee..

It is less games on seven but only slightly. It means saturday afternoons wont be on Seven anymore - they rate like shit anyway unless theres a big team playing in victoria.

it wont affect the local broadcast rule for teams outside victoria though - something the NRL still hasnt done as far as Im aware, so Storm fans will still be screwed on FTA.

and less than the NRL? NRL deal isnt complete yet, and the AFL one we have almost no details about.

Well the one thing you can be sure off, ahhh and its all news to me but you would say its gotta be North of 1.7million. If Rugby League have gone 1.7m lordy then there is no way Gill McGloclen is gunna stand up and put is chest out and say we got 1.6million.

2billion over 6 years is 1.66billion over 5 year.

Gill was correct, he valued the rights for AFL at 1.7max, he was spot on.

I will shine that silver medal up for ya guys, free of charge now that you will be struggling for coin...

Caro - who also does 3aw football - says she doesnt know if its 5 years with an optional 6 - and doesnt say whose option it is. And we still dont know digital or streaming details at all.

So in other words she is like the Buzz Rothfield of the AFL she has no bloody idea, we should just ignore the whole article.

Interesting..

what I don't get why didn't the NRL have the whole deal secured then release it,
why break it up and release individually..

They must feel they can get more money this way.

Actually, what Rupert Murdoch was quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald as saying was "we've always preferred Aussie rule (sic) and we've always believed this is the premium code in Australia," and he added, "I guess we will engage with the NRL in time."

Rupert Murdoch got where he is by being a realist, and not living in cloud cuckoo land.

His judgement of AFL as the premium code in Australia is spot on.

That's why he chose AFL to spearhead his PTV network in 1993. You delusional Vickhead. What do you expect the guy to do? talk up the NRL before he discusses money. That would make him some type of business man #-o
