Older players are not really pushed out from the game, they are merily replaced with younger models...
Although David was playing great footy each up and coming contract that was signed was risky if you weigh him up against a younger player who would be more of a asset for years longer, rather than just holding david year to year..
He was one of those players who got better each year he played, was great to watch him come back to the ARL so we could see him farewell the fans..

I'd say pressure from the mid season slump combined with a performing replacement lead him to go with a guy who has more strike in attack than david was currently showing..
I guess he got thrown a lifeline by souths to once again play in australia and was appreciative just to get back in a team after he was thrown away from the sharks.
