SBW and Burgess to Rugby Union - clearly shows Union continues to put the boot in the NRL, along with another long time NRL returnee in Karmichael Hunt, who also told them to get stuffed and joined Union from AFL

while Hayne left the Eels to join a training squad where he will be earning a couple hundred bucks here and there + case of beer....

Is the NRL in crisis right now? Do they have a plan to combat this? I can understand being in their shoes, earning pennies playing in the NRL infront of no fans...I would say stuff it and leave too if i'm honest

Unfortunately the National Rapist League's biggest problem is the tedium and monotony of the sport itself. A good 70% of a thugby league game involves the dummy half making a single pass onto an attacking player is then promptly tackled, usually on the back 50. It's a slow, miserable grind which is why the game struggles to crack into any market outside of a few Australian states.

The new open era of sport will not be king to rugby league as it eventually starts to move sideways instead of forward. Why would you watch it when you can now flick the channel and watch far more skilful and sophisticated affairs- A league, NBA, NHL, NFL, EPL; the list goes on and on.

The AFL? well they've got ablett, a bloke who's slow, weak, unpowerful and unagile compared to your avg rugby league back. But he does know marngrook real good so good for him but he has no choices or options available to him other than the AFL

The oi league... with womens cricket breathing down its back its a league in turmoil. The country has turned its back on the code and the players? Well where could they ever code hop? They'd be bashed and on the ground crying if they tried out for the womens soccer squads The oi leagues 'superstars' are tired old slow wrinkly European men going through a midlife crisis trying to pickup Australian women and see the country's sights its true! those leeches should be shunned.

so I guess its a problem of the superior athletes code that the nrl has with its exodus. The other codes will pay em heaps because, well, they know RL athletes are supreme and they know their fans would love to see em. They're not stoopid.

Undeniably RL is tough and brutal, and lucky it is because it's this reliance on physicality which disguises the games acute lack of skill. RL=Great athletes without being skilful sportsmen. Soccer= the great athletes fail if they don't also have great skill. No hiding behind brute strength here gents otherwise you're going to get found out really quickly.

Look at the atrocious participation rates for Thugby League in this country. Here the physicality limits its accessibility; the kids/teenagers who play, the future stars of tomorrow, are an absolute minority in Australia's sporting landscape . Does this impact the quality of the game-not really because it's so bloody limited to begin with :D . If far more technical, sophisticated sports like Soccer or Basketball had such a small participation base to go off then the standards would be atrocious, you'd have a massive skills deficit.

I believe a number of AFL players have gone to the USA and played NFL? I believe at least 2 but I suspect maybe more.

So again it appears the NRL are the only ones that don't really have anywhere to go, oh besides McDonalds.

I heard a rumor that when an NRL player retires, part of the retirement package is a cheat card that reminds them to say "do you want fries with that"
