Giants crowd tonight looks packed - it’s in Canberra
They played at the exact same time as the Brumbies, and in not so good news for the Brumbies. GWS got 12k and Brumbies got 8k.
ACT

1. NRL
2. AFL
3. Union
Interesting rankings from the footy crowds thread Leeroy and thinking this is worthy of its own thread and discussion.

It was not all that long ago that Rugby Union and the ACT Brumbies were dominating in crowds. Now an expansion AFL team from Western Sydney is getting bigger crowds than the local Rugby team. And wasn’t there some kind of deal with the Canberra Raiders on the weekend regarding ticketing to boost the crowds for both codes?

Any ideas what participation rates for the codes in the ACT are like?

Considering Rugby Union is solely on pay tv, I would say NRL and AFL split the tv interest for first and second rankings. Soccer ranked 4th with an expansion team in the A-League proposed.

TV
no ratings for " Canberra " as such , they're locked into SNSW regional ratings & nothing gets near the NRL in this part of the world.
Canberra would be no different.

participation
Irrelevant, sooker has more players then the other 3 codes combined in Canberra ... but only because its a soft little sports for girls & boys with no nuts
similar to the fumbling mess from Vicdopia
I understand in the " region " .... RL is next biggest for players

crowds
the make up of " locals " for the 3 codes this weekend just gone

Brumbies
8118
7000 locals , 1118 Kiwis

Grants
12234
7000 locals , the rest a mishmash of vicdumbians & people from the Riverina

Raiders
15686
15500 locals , 186 Phins fans

the fumbling mess from Vicdumboh

i remeber indeed they use to get big crowds during the SUPER RUGBY 15 days
the decline is HUGE and only getting worse.

While i think NRL dominate ACT it would be interesting to see the numbers if a Full time AFL side entered.

tv Ratings for the codes would be a very interesting stat, as i do not think i ever seen a stat on ratings for Canberra

Not sure there'd be much change to twerpballs support if they had a fulltime fumbling bumbling team in Canberra , they would have to play in the dead of winter ( they don't now ) 11 games also so not the same demand in attending as for 3 games

won't ever happen anyway....

true 11 games to 3 though i think a full time team, which going by history would get big funding not just from AFL but by the Government
it would get a good niche happening

occasionally they have been published
here are some for the 2012 State of Origin ...
https://citynews.com.au/2012/block-beat ... n-ratings/

I know the 2019 NRL GF rated higher then that Origin there & , the twerpball GF the same year ... for the Grants , less then half

Giants pulling some impressive crowds.
Hope the Brumbies can get back to their glory days as RU has had some difficult times with the Western force and Rebels both shut shop.

the CEO of the Super Rugby has come out and said they need to rejuvenate the game and competition. its interesting over in WA when 2 countries play in a game, the city i packed with loud expats letting people know that there team is playing. there seems base levels of support for the game at national front, so im sure Union and Brumbies aren't totally dead
