Storm - welcome to country
Apparently a mix up and storm have apologised - but interesting in reading social media comments of many people having enough of this - I like it and think it is good to embrace a cultural tradition going back 1000s of years and is unusually ours. I think most of the anti comments fall into two categories - 1 ignorance as to what a welcome to country is and means - that “country” does not refer to Australia but the something thst has been done to welcome one region/mob to another’s. The second is basically racist twats who don’t like the it is an aboriginal/indigenous thing. And it seems across board - a society issue - not a code issue (which should go without saying).

oh dear fwed
its a made up ceremony invented by white woke wankers ... from about 1990
has zero indigenous significance or history ...
none
The Storm made a decision last off season that they'd be scaling the ceremony back in 2025
not that , that was the reason they didn't hold one on Friday night , they thought ANZAC day was one of the occasions they weren't having one , & when the indigenous elder ( she had been booked) turned up to do it , there wasn't time.
Unfortunate.

Re: Storm - welcome to country
I don't know what the welcome to country is supposed to achieve. It sure doesn't help the poor and disadvantaged indigenous folk in the regions and outer city suburbs.
It might give some activists a feel good vibe but how does that help indigenous people with health problems, unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse issues and incarceration rates? Feeling good doesn't = action.
I don't mind it at a few appropriate events but when it happens at every meeting/occasion with over 5 people and a tray of scones in attendance it loses all meaning.

Re: Storm - welcome to country
people keep missing the point! aside most people are sick of the welcome to country in and see it as nothing but a cash grab! the welcome to ceremony was created by ernie dingo some 40 years ago! but the event took place and tried to over shadow ANZAC day. people fought and gave there life for what we have today, if it wasnt for them we would not be here and Australia would not exist as it is today and would had been easily over run

Re: Storm - welcome to country
Melbourne Storm are a racist club, happy to pay for and spread misinformation and hate towards Indigenous Australians. No doubts about it.
Disgusting club and board.
https://theklaxon.com.au/storm-director ... p-advance/
Melbourne Storm co-owner and director Brett Ralph is one of the biggest funders of disinformation group “Advance” — which has been running a campaign of hate and division against the Indigenous Welcome to Country.
Since the founding of Advance — which claims the Indigenous ceremony is part of a secretive plan by “elites” to “delegitimise Australia’s history” — Ralph has given the disinformation group at least $275,000.
Last financial year he was its tied second biggest funder, giving Advance $50,000 — behind only the Liberal Party, which gave the disinformation group a massive $500,000, Australian Electoral Commission records show.
NRL giant Melbourne Storm cancelled its planned Welcome to Country address Friday, hours after the Indigenous ceremony at Melbourne’s Anzac Day dawn service was marred by booing and abuse from a group of people, including a convicted neo-Nazi.
Investigations show Ralph — who has been a director of Melbourne Storm since 2021, and who co-owns 20% of the team — has given Advance at least $275,000 since the disinformation group was founded in 2018.
“It’s about delegitimising your place in the country, your family’s history, the sacrifice and blood, sweat and tears that went into building Australia,” wrote Advance executive director Matthew Sheahan.
Ralph is one of just four board members of the Melbourne Storm, including its chairman, Matthew Tripp.
Kathleen Terrick, an Indigenous dancer slated to have appear at the event, told the ABC the group had been told the cancellation of the Welcome to Country was “due to the wishes of the board”.
“All the work we’ve done to build a respectful relationship, that’s now been shattered,” Terrick said.

I just don’t see how it hurts or devalues anything - in fact, I think it enriches us as a society bringing into it parts of a culture we have long ignored .

the saying does if you give a leftist an inch they continue to take a mile. my issue is its got nothing to do with helping, bringing the Indigenous out of poviety. its nothing more than exploitation of the culture for money. if they were serious and genuine in helping the Aboriginal an investigation would happen where all the current 38 plus billion goes. the newly started aboriginal corporations are similarly that of the greens. pretend to care for the bush/environment or les fortunate but are not much more than marxist/socilists using it to fun a lavish life stying
