Read an article by Damien Barrett having a go at the AFL re: start time of the AFL Grand Final. He is suggesting the networks don't like it, the clubs don't like it (no one asks for this time during the season), and it doesn't lead to the best looking spectacle that a night time entertainment with fireworks would be. He is suggesting that a 5pm ish start time will occur in the next two years? What do people think.
I think it is hard to argue against a 4 million plus ratings figure - however the suggestion is it this is ratings deed area and whilst it will always get those who want to watch - misses those who may be flicking around at home in front of the TV in the evening and tune in.

Re: AFL Grand Final start time
yes
the daytime GF has little opposition from other TV shows so should always do well ratings wise , while putting it on later in the day or at night aka the NRL since 2001 , you compete for casual eyeballs in prime time against other networks marquee shows
Night produces a far better visual spectacle , Katy Perry was great on Sat , but it just all looked & felt a bit flat.
tv networks agitating will eventually change the time I think

Re: AFL Grand Final start time
Yes, the TV networks definitely want it at night as a better spot for them re: ratings - but fans generally want the tradition of the day grand final. I quite enjoyed the night grand final in Brisbane a few years back. Still a little powder the AFL is keeping dry I guess to up the price for 7 although that's a way off to 2031? The AFL wont give it away surely.azif wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 3:43 pmyes
