Announced today the new Tassie team will be called the Tasmania Devils. Apparently some talk with Warner Bros re: Trafe Mark laws which, I read, was made a lot easier once Warner officials realised that there was actually an animal called the Tasmanian Devil -making Amy claims, I suspect, much more difficult. Also, that there is already a team in Tassie with this name and one previously known as this - hence trademark law also would be difficult to apply in Australia at least, given already used and has local meaning (hence Ugg Boots can be used by anyone in Australia as seen as a colloquial term for any boot made of wool- but no where else on the world).
Anyway - just got to get the stadium built.
I posted this on 3/5/23. Edited to read warner in lieu of disney which I entered in error.

“Now that Tasmania is joining the AFL there is a lot of discussion about their name and how they cant be called the Tasmanian devils, Tazzy Devils or the Taz Devils without the permission of Warner, because they own the copyright.
This is rubbish, Warner own the copyright to the character, nothing more. Not Tasmania, Tazzy, Taz or devil, they apply to real objects, Warner did not make up any of those words (so they are not their creation) and all have been in common use well before Warner was created.
So if the AFL wanted to use the caricature of Warners “Taz” in a logo there maybe be an issue.
But seeing the Warner cartoon looks nothing like a Tasmanian Devil I doubt that would happen.
But there is No other issue, and the AFL registered the relevant names ages ago.”
I’m not too sure why a roofed stadium is part of the deal, but it certainly appear that it is.
Long term it will be of benefit to Hobart, but is it necessary?
Been cited that weather is a concern but the AFL play games there now without issue and Hobart has an average of 87 rainy days per year, but Melbourne has an average of 139 rainy days, with more games played at the MCG with no roof.
Maybe better to upgrade both Tazzie ovals in the short term.
If the roofed Stadium is an absolute requirement should be a least 30,000.
That being said, it would be a very short term government, that denies Tasmania an AFL team.
The name: expected, nothing much else really considered.
The logo: fine
The Jumper: not surprising but I preferred the original SOO jumper.
Go tassie.
Now for no. 20.
