Another former RL player becomes world Champion at a different sport
RL just seems to keep producing superior talent in different sports .
Today Alex Volkanovsk became the UFC world featherweight Champion .
Well Done .
A tough sport lIke Rl is great grounding for athletes to try other sports .
Other football sports besides RU just don't seem to be able to do it like RL does .

UFC: How roots in rugby league helped launch Alex Volkanovski's MMA career
11 May, 2019 5:00am
Just under a decade ago, Alex Volkanovski made the decision to leave rugby league behind him and venture into the world of mixed martial arts.
It's a decision that changed his life.
At 21, Volkanovski was running out for his local league team on weekends, with his 5'6" (170cm), 97kg frame taking up a spot up in the front row. Now 30, the Australian is one of the top contenders in the UFC's featherweight (66kg) division.
"Five-foot-five, five-foot-six if I'm lucky, and 97kg - as you can imagine I was pretty hard to tackle," he told the Herald.
But while he's left it behind, his time in league has unwittingly helped him on his mixed martial arts journey.
"It's made me a strong type of guy. I'm used to them big boys there, and even now when I fight these featherweights I've always been used to wrestling and going against the bigger boys, so it's made me tough and even maybe confidence-wise it helps.
"It's a tough sport, it's not easy so it's rolled into MMA pretty well and made me who I am today. I'm glad I was a part of rugby league, but I'm glad I made the change because look at me now. It's been a pretty crazy journey."

Fred the Basketball player played Rugby League and AFL, despite what AFL propaganda minister Gil Goebbels would like us to believe.

Oh thanks ... did a search and Ben Simmons ... see he lived in Newcastle until 10 years then moved to Melbourne. Surely you don’t think playing under 10s rugby league played a significant role? I did see he attributed his aussie rules football to helping him on the basketball court though.pussycat wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2019 1:36 pmFred wrote: Sun Dec 15, 2019 7:48 pmHe played local rl?

As a teenager, Simmons was torn between his two loves of basketball and Australian rules football,[14] but eventually decided to focus on basketball.[15][16][17] In Year 9, at the age of 15, Simmons played basketball for Box Hill Senior Secondary College at the 2011 Australian Schools Championships[9] before taking up a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in 2012.[18] Later that year, Simmons made his first appearance in the United States at the renowned Pangos All-American Camp for basketball prospects.[19][20][21] Despite being only 15 years old, he was chosen to represent Australia at the 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championship.[9]

Any Moron, on any street corner, on any given day can play force backs. Only a highly skilled athlete can pay RL. And the ability and skills are usually developed in there formative years.

I'd love to see a list of ex fumblers who have played as an adult in top grade (city ....bush ) who then went on to be a world champ at another sport .

What’s force backs firstly.
He was under 10 when he played rl????
He loved Australian Rules and played when moved to Victoria when 10?
He had yo choose between his two loves ... aussie rules and basketball
He cites playing aussie rules as benefiting his basketball game?
What don’t you get?

What do you consider top grade. Playing senior footy doesn’t mean it’s “too” grade. Lots of average leagues out there. I played A grade baseball but hardly top grade ...AFLcrap1 wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2019 11:10 amLol

Re: Another former RL player becomes world Champion at a different sport
We could spend our time googling this but some have lives to live.
Plus I’m sure you’ll pick to bits with your obsessiveness about what qualifies as a world champ ... is this literal or just mean the best or highest level ... team sports or individual ... and what is top grade? Is it playing senior football for a div 4 country league or does it have to be a div 1 team. Just playing senior footy Would qualify a lot of people as you can play senior footy in certain leagues and would struggle in the magoos in a higher league. So some parameters. And what level did that ufc guy play rl at?
I’m sure there would be several cricketers who have won a world championship with Australia who have played senior top grade footy. I’m also pretty sure there are many aflw players that have excelled in other sports.

So that's a no is it Fred ?
Anyone Fred? C'mon.... How about someone who can rub his stomach while patting his head at the same time???
There has to be an AFL player out there with some sort of ability?
