And the winner is Sydney.Swans post 2017 profit
Sydney Swans Media
19 December 2017 8:57 AM
The Sydney Swans have reported a net operating profit of $105,186 for the year ending 31 October 2017. Profit before depreciation was $764,891, while net assets were $2,191,005.
Despite Sydney’s tough start to the season, the Swans defied history to play in their eighth consecutive finals series, taking the club to 19 finals campaigns in the past 21 years.
Season 2017 saw the Sydney Swans achieve a new membership record of 58,838 members, while a record crowd of 46,323 turned out to watch the Swans beat Essendon in the elimination final at the SCG.
The Swans also featured in five of the 10 highest-rating home-and-away games on television.
Off the field, Sydney became the first club in the AFL to launch a Diversity Action Plan, addressing Disability Empowerment, LGBTIQ Pride, Multicultural Inclusion and the Advancement of Women.
The club also hosted the first Pride Game in Sydney for premiership points and announced the establishment of a Youth Girls Program, as part of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.
Sydney Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham said he’s pleased with what the club was able to achieve in 2017, despite a number of challenges.
“The financial result was on balance acceptable given we faced a number of challenges this year, including reduced match-day revenue in the wake of our tough start,” Pridham said.
“I would like to thank our corporate partners, especially our principal partner QBE, whose continued support has allowed us to achieve so much. A special thank you also to our major partners, Citi and Volkswagen.
“Without the ongoing loyalty and support of our corporate partners our football club would not be where it is today.
“Finally, thank you to our loyal members and the fans who have supported our team throughout the year.
“Your passion and dedication drives all of us to keep getting better and we look forward to an exciting season in 2018”.
Key 2017 statistics:
33,398 average crowd at the SCG
46,323 record AFL crowd at the SCG for the Elimination Final v Essendon
794,918 total attendance across all Sydney Swans matches
58,838 total membership – a record for the 5th year running
Largest supporter base of any professional sporting club in Australia with 1.204 million supporters (Roy Morgan Research Sept 2017)

Yep. The Swans have done very well for 20 years but it will be the inevitable down years that will test their popularity. If they have a run of bad years like the Brisbane Lions they will undoubtedly suffer the same consequences.

Re: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE SWANS!
No bad years .AFL house make sure of that by compromising the comp .
Used to be Cola cola cola.
Now it's Cola with a different name
some Bullshit rent assistance scheme that makes sure that the Swans get extra $$$$ .
How much profit would they make ..if any ..if not given extra .

Re: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE SWANS!
True. At some stage though they will slip down the ladder. And when they do they will be in dire financial straits. If they can only generate 1k profit in the very best of times they will run multi million dollar deficits in the bad times.AFLcrap1 wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2018 11:35 amNo bad years .AFL house make sure of that by compromising the comp .

I think Sarge just posted this to give us all a laugh.
Got to admit the part about this being researched by Roy Morgan was a great touch

I've had the argument with him previously about popularity due to AFL house ensuring the Swans success with extra $$$

Well its not off the back of pokies thats for sure, (and while were at it COLA is no longer in existence.) But it appears you all miss the point 58 k members with a crowd average of 33k is not only impressive but proof as far as club football is concerned they are the biggest in Sydney. And i posted it just to see all those Leaguies (especially crapper) stand their feet jump up and down and go red in the face to protest that its all lies lies. Job done!

Just under another name .
But you keep living in la la land .
Never said the members or crowds were lies .
I posted why they are successful.
Just like last time you deny what is in front of your face
So once again it's education time for the less intelligent **** us .
You'd think they would have a clue what is happening with their own team in the sport they follow .
http://www.theage.com.au/AFL/AFL-news/s ... zrj5l.html
Sydney's controversial cost-of-living allowance will be removed by the start of the 2017 season but the AFL will compensate the Swans with a new rent subsidy, which the league will pay directly to footballers earning less than the average players' wage.
However, Greater Western Sydney appears to have been successful in its push to retain an additional $1 million in its salary cap, which the AFL will continue to support in recognition of the unique challenges faced by the Giants as they battle to establish themselves. GWS players will also receive the rental subsidy from the start of 2017.
The cost-of-living allowance that affords the two Sydney-based clubs an extra 9.8 per cent worth of salary cap room will be phased out - in the Swans' case over 2015 and 2016 - with all existing contracts, including Lance Franklin's, to be honoured going forward.
Instead the AFL will directly allocate an estimated $15,000 to every player on the lower side of the wage spectrum. By 2017 the qualification ceiling for rent subsidy is expected to include all footballers earning below an annual $300,000.

Re: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE SWANS!
Sydney is the most expensive city to live in, plus it isnt AFL heartland. The AFL are balancing the incentive for new draftees to return to their home state by subsidizing some of that expense. The cost doesnt really help keep Sydney succeaful, it balances out tje challenges faved by teams in expansion states so they are at least competitive

Re: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE SWANS!
Oh dear l
The but but but excuses are flowing .
Swans success is built on the back of a compromised comp
Legalised cheating instigated by AFL house .
Yet the brainwashed fools will nod & go along with it .
It's an unfair comp.
With an uneven playing field .
I'm glad I follow a sport where all teams are even on field .
No team gets extra $$$$
