For the amount of money AFL has thrown here in promotion with schools programs, advertising etc. This is a pretty bad figure.

The Storm haven't had a 35 year history in Melbourne like AFL has had in Sydney. They only started in 1998. Nor have they had the mass promotion in Melbourne like AFL has had in Sydney.

Ok so Melbourne got 30,000 viewers in Melbourne. Still almost double what the Giants got without all the free ticket giveways and without having every single game broadcast to free to air..

I think that's the point of the giants. They are in an area that is rugby league heartland and soccer central. That was the whole point of putting an AFL team there... given the population. So that it rates lowly and have low crowds ... that's a base to grow from and it is growing. I am not sure why anyone would be surprised that gws doesn't rate that well or gets poor crowds ? It is there to get a foothold in a very important market where it has a small, minute presence presently.

you make excuse for the Storm being only 19 years old yet laugh at the giants who are 5 years old and havent won anything. The Storm have had massive success yet barely rate more than double the giants despite the fact the storm are the only RL club in Melbourne

GWS beaten by Peppa Pig

The whole GWS experiment has been an absolute shambles.

1. Their home ground is not even based in an area that could be considered greater western Sydney
2. Israel Folou came, was lauded by Kshoody and many other prominent AFL figures, and then took off with millions of AFL moolah for nuttin
3. The GWS experiment/notion of getting 22 odd 17-19 year olds who would one day form this amazing unit that would be a frightening prospect within five years has failed miserably. Most their starting squad are now players they've recruited from other places.
