The Sydney Swans are by far the biggest sporting club in NSW with largest crowds, membership base and sponsorship deals in NSW.

TV ratings are split between FTA, Fox and Kayo and dwarf anything comparable from Soccer and Rugby Union in Sydney (two codes that have been well established in Sydney for how long now?).

AFL is very strong and continues to grow in NSW despite whatever leaguies will try tell ya.
Matildas draw bigger TV audience than swans in the wee hours on sbs. Swans on TV in Sydney are a irrelevancy.
Oh dear. Comparing a World Cup event to a home and away fixture. Fair dinkum.

Why not compare the tv ratings for the Swans with comparable season tv ratings for Sydney FC or the Western Sydney Wanderers? Go on... I dare ya...

Nah don’t want to go there eh? I don’t blame you. :(/

Because Socceroos & Matildas are peak teams for code just like swans, only they're capable of gaining bigger audience. Btw swans regular season ratings in Sydney suck.

Ridiculous comparison. Shows just how pathetic your denials of the AFL success in NSW really are. Wont talk crowds, membership or sponsorship let alone direct comparisons of tv ratings between Sydney teams in the respective codes. We all know why of course.

Give up already. You look foolish dude.

How is it ridiculous?
Swans play at the very very top of the AFL level .
Not our fault that's the only elite level .
So yes top level v top level .

If your sport was t so insular there might be rep levels like normal sports .

You’re not serious are you? Comparing a once in 4 years game to a week in week out competition?. Why are you so desperate in your obvious bias against afl? Comparing a weekly comp to a once in a 4 year comp ???? Seriously. Line saying 400 metre athletic meets are more popular as it rated more at the Olympic s.

What sport do socceroos & Matildas play? Which code boasts bledisloe cup which leaves any anglofl match for dead in Sydney. Just cause you can't compete doesn't mean this should be ignored.

TV ratings for anglofl in Sydney are rubbish. Swans got only 31,000 watching on FTA last weekend - what does A league get 15 to 20,000? I wouldn't be boasting about this.

Add fox onto that ... which I think we had for Sydney for several weeks, and the ratings aren’t too bad. Particularly give. Fox had a bigger uptake in nsw/Sydney than other places. And it is still higher than soccer. Australian Rules clearly number 2 sport in Sydney. In parts of NSW it could be Number 1....

Idiocy Fred!!!!!!! AFL is in a shit fight with Rugby and soccer for 2nd spot in their domestic comps only. But this is where the old chestnut of international games comes into it.

The value and recognition of the Wallabies and Socceroos means both Rugby & soccer are more relevant in NSW overall than fumbling. And the only place that fumbling could be number 1 is on the NSW/Vic border in places like Albury & Deniliquin or Broken Hill which may as well secede to SA.

Hope this helps.

Soccer participation is greatest by far. All 3 contending codes have crap TV ratings, although soccer & rugby have International events which draw large audiences. Swans boast largest live crowds, however a league teams play more matches & with wanderers moving to bankwest & new campbelltown side the sport may gain most live fans in total. Anglofl then left with nothing to boast about.

OK, let’s use a RL fans logic to rank the codes in NSW by only looking at tv ratings and in this instance comparing World Cup Socceroos ratings against the Sydney Swans cause we clearly can’t compare Swans vs Sydney FC or Western Sydney Wanderers or Waratahs apparently. But anyway let’s continue.

The highest rating AFL game in Sydney was the 1996 Grand Final Sydney vs North Melbourne where 1.018 million viewers tuned in, in Sydney alone.

Got a Socceroos, Matildas or Wallabies game that rated better in Sydney? :hmm:

Nah didn’t think so. :-$

Fuck you leaguies and soccer fruit loops, even old Roy can acknowledge the facts every so often.
the 1996 grand final between the Swans and North Melbourne, attracted 1.018m viewers in Sydney

http://www.smh.com.au/news/afl/swans-fi ... 62219.html
So again, AFL dwarfs soccer and rugby union in crowds, memberships, sponsorships and yep even tv ratings in Sydney to be ranked 2nd behind the NRL.

That’s reality people. Leaguies of course can never bring themselves to admit that and will continue to tell us we are delusional. Fair dinkum eh? Seriously... :(/

Oh and whenever a fuck head RL fan questions the AFL’s expansion, consider this:
More than 4 million fans watched AFL Grand Final between Western Bulldogs and Sydney
AAP, Herald Sun
October 2, 2016

THE bumper TV ratings for Saturday’s grand final highlight why the AFL is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the two northern expansion teams.

The Western Bulldogs’s fairytale win over Sydney was the fourth most-watched game in AFL history.

The combined metro and regional average of 4.089 million viewers on the Seven Network was a whopping 16 per cent increase on last year’s Hawthorn v West Coast Grand Final.

It also means the top six games are all Sydney Grand Finals.

The record remains Sydney’s 1996 Grand Final loss to North Melbourne at 4.4 million, which narrowly beat their drought-breaking 2005 win over West Coast.

The Swans’ Grand Final loss to West Coast in 2006 is third at 4.15 million. Sydney’s 2012 grand final win over Hawthorn and their ‘14 loss to the Hawks fill the next two spots.

The AFL have set up the Giants and Gold Coast as the cornerstones of a long-term strategy to strengthen the game’s presence in NSW and Queensland.

A-League is lucky to get tv ratings like that nationwide. Sydney figures for soccer are that low they aren’t even reported.
