Aflol in WS .

Post by AFLcrap1 »

Got this from LU .

He has a link to the quotes on the bottom .

If true & I have no doubt it is ,then it highlights the reality v the perception that The Lawson Report talked about .

News today that the only Western Sydney club in the Sydney Premier division has folded for the year, 2 days before the season starts. Campbelltown has won comps in the past but after the major sponsor cut their investment from 50k to 20k they haven't been able to recruit and facing another year coming last they have pulled out.

Lots of people in the Sydney AFL community (all 10 of them) have been critical of the Giants for the way the have come in and given nothing back to the local community, in fact they partnered up with Manly (that's gotta be west of some bridge somewhere, right?).

A few posts on the topic from the Sydney AFL community since the rumor started doing the rounds 3 weeks ago.

Quote:
I highly doubt the AFL would let this happen as they see Town as strategically important and have been doing everything they can to prop them up.
Quote:
If Campbelltown are to fold then that will be an absolute stain against the game in Sydney.

And I might say the management of the NSWAFL who have run effectively been running a team (the Magick) out of HQ funded by the NSWAFL when those precious resources could have been used to save an existing club.

This also illustrates starkly the parlous state of the game in the west of Sydney - isn't the district that GWS were meant to be conquering. Well, maybe if they had concentrated on trying to help Campbelltown rather than an idiotic tie up with Manly (possibly the dumbest thing I have ever seen) then they might have at least ONE senior AFL club in their catchment area

Have a look at the teams from the West

Campbelltown - about to fold
Camden - progressive but still playing at a very weak level
Penrith - had a small surge but now wallowing
Hawkesbury - perennial battlers
Parramatta - no more than a solid Div 2 club, going better since that mob went off to Auburn
Liverpool - possibly the best run club in the region and on the up but still at Div 2
Blacktown - AFL Pet, built on very shaky foundation

And let's not forget the debacle of the Lebanese experiment in Auburn....
Quote:
GWS have done nothing for our club except try an woo our major sponsor. They have no idea who we are and have made absolutely no effort unless you count invitations to the chairmans lounge to drink free piss 2 days before games.

The completely lost our club with the manly venture
Quote:
We had our Gala Day for the junior club recently, at Richmond Oval. The Giants support was staggering. No players, but they sent out some games and G-Man's suit, which my brother had to wear.

I've gone right off them, they can fold tomorrow for all I care, they give nothing to the football community out here. The Swans do more.
Quote:
Also heard around the traps that ECE the cricket club and Baulko council are not impressed with the Giants either. The community game the other week was supposed to be played at Bruce Purcer and was pulled last minute. Cricket had relocated games to accomadate the game, the council had built a hill for the crowd and the junior and community clubs that ECE invite to help on the day missed out on revenue that would have helped immensely. One could say it was a giant disaster in terms or PR for those clubs involved out west.
All from the first page. If you like reading local club presidents shitting on the Giants, then read this thread!

I remember when I posted that bit from the Lawson report .
Did I get howled down by the fumblers .
Looks like he was right on the money ,& why another report has not been done .

http://www.sportingpulse.com/get_file.cgi?id=2148289

A shortened version by Roy Masters
The AFL's boast of vast increases in participation numbers in western Sydney is misleading, according to a report commissioned by one of its key stakeholders.

This month's report, prepared by a Melbourne University academic at the request of AFL NSW/ACT, supports what many rugby league administrators have been saying for some time - the AFL is using registrations in its modified game of Auskick to bolster actual playing numbers.

The research appears to seriously question a claim last month by an AFL NSW senior official that participation numbers in the western Sydney region have grown by 27 per cent, or 10,000 players, in a single year.

Under the heading, ''Western Sydney - The Reality versus Perception Gap'', the report's author, David Lawson, notes: ''The reality is that junior club maturity and participation numbers appear to have stalled. There are 6 [per cent] less junior/youth players in 2012 than in 2009. The perception, however, is that the game is growing well. This perception is supported by masking low junior club numbers with Auskick numbers (Club, School and Community Auskick) and school program numbers. This optimistic, bullish perception is needed to market the game, however this perception urgently needs to be underpinned by committed junior club participants.''

Please Please Just give up..

I wonder how much the AFL will pump into them this year..

In the Hills District in Sydney.. You will find them often giving out tickets to the Giants Games that week.
Baulkham Hills
I seen this twice last year. I declined but a few guys handing them out were throwing them away to anyone and everyone lol

I wonder when it will happen this year.

LOL Oh Dear

What I don't get ,is when proof is shown of how things really are ,the cult like thinking of you are lying you are lying ,is mind boggling .

The report also says that school participants rarely take up Aflol as a sport ,& it is the school who chooses to participate in Auskick ,not the kids .
It appears they are not interested .

who cares? The AFL is by far the biggest and most popular winter code in Australia, even with limited growth in western Sydney.

Provide some actual ratings for cartoons you fucking wanker! You've been asked to multiple times on the thread you created but failed to every single time.

That being said the AFL is still more popular in RL states than RL is popular in AFL states

It's already been done before nlol, aflcrap1s put the ratings up before.

I think women's cricket also beats the AFL in sydney.

Just deal with it bro. There's definitive proof. No one likes AFL here in sydney.
