October's Sydney derby, the first of the new A-League season, has already sold 5000 tickets which is currently more than both this weekend's NRL finals at Allianz Stadium combined.

The Sydney derby at Allianz between home side Sydney FC and their cross-town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers FC takes place in round two of the new season on October 18, more than a month away.

Yet as of Monday, that figure was higher than the number of tickets so far sold for both of this weekend’s sudden-death NRL finals combined at the same venue.

As of Tuesday morning, Friday's AFL preliminary final had sold just over 40,000 tickets.

It's indication of the growing fan-base of the two rival clubs in the Harbour City.

The news comes just days before the A-League national ticket on-sale, launched this Friday.

Meanwhile, Wanderers fans could find themselves back at Allianz Stadium not long after the derby with reports a possible ACL final home leg could be played at the home of their fierce rivals.

Wanderers are almost certain to be forced to move the home leg of the final away from Parramatta to a bigger venue if they qualify.

Parramatta Stadium will host the second leg of the semi-final against FC Seoul on October 1 with the first leg tomorrow night in Seoul.

Should Wanderers get past the Korean side they will face either Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal over two legs on October 25 and November 1.

News Corp reported on Tuesday that the FFA are believed to have approached both ANZ and Allianz Stadiums to host the first leg on October 25, should the Wanderers get passed FC Seoul in the semis.

While ANZ Stadium is believed to be the preferred option, they are facing significant challenges to play there with the Monster Jam event at the Olympic venue just a week earlier.

It’s understood the infrastructure for that even will take days to assemble then take down and is sure to have an effect on the quality of the surface.

the sydney public have spoken, no one is interested in the nrl and they'd rather by tickets to a soccer match that is over a month away

anyone want to make a forum bet with me? it's my first since joining the forum but i already like my odds

i bet that the sydney derby between SFC and WSW will have a higher attendance than both this weekends NRL finals - not accumulatively but for each individual match?

any nuff nuff wanna put their money where their mouth is?

shoutout to the AFL who have sold 40,000 tickets for their finals in that same period...that's how real fans operate

Ummmm, it's Tuesday right?

How stupid of you to even bother posting this garbage considering the teams only found out on Sunday who they will play and where. The soccer lot selling tixs to their first round, wow, a fan of any code waits impatiently for round 1.

Try again.

So what, are we going to start using peoples opinions written at sports sites as gospel now?

That's what this comes down to, and the clown that wrote it in the first place is an absolute nut.

40,000 in one day eh
no source I see ... just a statement

& if this were true ... that would mean this final was selling better then the Collingthorn prelim final in 2012
that had sold some 24,000 at the equivalent time :-k
& that had been accompanied by the VFL putting out press releases on an hourly basis about the speed in which tickets were going back then

but
we have had stoney silence from the VFL this time around :?>
not a word re half of all tickets for ANZ being sold in a day 8-[
