Andy Idiaphoo quits
Well well well, what a surprise! I thought he'd keep on lining his pockets for decades to come. Personally I think this is the greatest thing that's happened for the AFL organisation in its entire history.
Ol Andy completely fucked the place over in his time and new blood will no doubt bring improvements. Does anyone know the reasoning behind his departure? My guess is he's thought, "shit things are just getting worse and sooner or later ima gunna coppit for my lame work and leadership. best I get the fuck out now while I still got the riches"

While I don't think AD has done everything perfectly, he's been far and away the best sports administrator this country has seen. In his time the AFL has grown tremendously and has the infrastructure, such as outstanding stadium arrangements in each state, to forge into the future. Well done AndyKing-Eliagh wrote:Well well well, what a surprise! I thought he'd keep on lining his pockets for decades to come. Re: Andy Idiaphoo quits
Why do you think he's leaving Xman?
I don't agree with a thing you just said btw. He has left a chasm between the wealth and results of teams in the AFL. An absolute chasm. He's failed to address institutional racism and he's played a poor leaders role in the whole drug saga, which evolved and grew into the disgrace it is under his watch.
Takin the money and runnin is my educated thoughts here

Re: Andy Idiaphoo quits
No I don't agree King Eliagh. Andrew stated that he would have quit this time last year, but then the ASADA issue blew up and he did the right thing not quitting at that point. It was very responsible of him to stay on and take care of a matter that originated while he was in charge at AFL HQ. I do however question his handling of the matter in that he opened a lot of doors in order to keep others closed so to speak - in my opinion. To me there is an unconfirmed stench over what was said between the AFL and ASADA in order to keep the investigation going a certain way. It may have been on the up and up, but we won't know for sure until ASADA's final report is released.
I do agree with King Eliagh however on the chasm between the wealth of teams, especially in the football departments. Andrew's replacement will have to deal with that sooner rather than later. However there is no more racism in the AFL than there is in the NRL in my opinion. Both can do more I agree, but how much more within the cultural restraints we can not tell.
I will say in closing that Demitriou was a better CEO than his predecessor.

He's leaving because he realises he's had his time. The wealth issue is the number one priority now and will be resolved in coming yearsKing-Eliagh wrote:Why do you think he's leaving Xman?

He has also made sure that Non heartland clubs get extra $$$,Draft picks etc at the expense of HEARTLAND clubs.
the Tanking/non tanking issue was laughable.
From an outsiders POV.he presided over a compromised comp, where there was no LEVEL playing field & the man loved to talk about INTEGRITY ,when I doubt he knew what it really meant.
Anyone who has a dodgy deal with the VIC police to cover things up/sweep under the rug is dodgy as all fuck.
& before you Fumblers jump o my post ..go & read BF ..they have been saying the same for a while..

Andrew was not a charismatic or really personable - but when you view what happened under his leadership ANY CEO in ANY company would consider himself to be successful.Cracker wrote:No I don't agree King Eliagh. Revenue's grew from approx 100 mil to 450 mil
Two new franchises expanding into new markets
750000 club members
Revenues at clubs GREATER than at ANY time in history
Integrity unit
Club futures fund 87 mil in place
Club distribution fund all time high
TV ratings up.
He could have handled things better and at times was heavy handed and a dictator - but what do you want from a leader - a shrinking violet or someone who promises the world but incapable of delivering - like saying in 5 yrs Soccer will be number one in Australia! In the end AFL is in a fairly good state - in ANY competition there will be those that have and others who have not - the AFL is not exclusive to these problems.

Re: Andy Idiaphoo quits
The AFL comp is the most lopsided in its history!
Its riddled with drug use, which appears to be just promoted through the most lax drug laws in the country.
Sure some of those things swines mentioned are positive however the big picture shows us a comp in decline.

Re: Andy Idiaphoo quits
Sad day for the AFL to hear Vlad will finish up as CEO come seasons end. He is clearly the best sports administrator in the land. Record tv rights deal, growth in crowds, membership numbers, stadium redevelopments paid for by various governments, expansion of the game into new markets... the list goes on.
That said, perhaps now we will get footy on Good Friday and a night grand final. Two things Vlad was always against.

The middle paragraph is presumptive and highly controversial, and requires more detail.King-Eliagh wrote:The AFL comp is the most lopsided in its history!

In the big picture I don't think the AFL is in decline. If you wish to limit the picture to crowd averages that would obviously tell a different story, but the game is still strong. The NRL is rising slowly but steadily within it's limits which will hopefully continue to provide stronger competition and consequently higher quality sporting presentations. If the AFL is in fact in decline it will show in 2014 with another drop in crowd averages.
