YEAR IN REVIEW: AUSKICK
There were highlights aplenty for NAB AFL Auskick in 2013 across NSW and ACT, with the region recording the highest number of participants in Australia.

The 2013 Auskick season kicked off with a bang with the national NAB AFL Auskick season launched in Martin Place in Sydney.

Swans premiership players Josh Kennedy and Shane Mumford, and GWS GIANTS young guns Dylan Shiel and Stephen Coniglio, along with 15 local Auskickers, dropped by to perform a few drills with the Sunrise crew.

Over 47,000 kids across NSW and the ACT participated in NAB AFL Auskick in 2013, with more than 8,000 in club Auskick programs, 17,000 in after-school programs and 22,000 in schools.

The number of participants is the largest it has ever been, with NSW/ACT recording the highest number of participants across Australia.

3,174 club and after-school Auskickers participated in Half-Time Auskick at both Sydney Swans and GWS GIANTS home matches at the SCG, Skoda Stadium, ANZ Stadium and StarTrak Oval.

Three NSW/ACT Auskickers were rewarded as weekly winners of the NAB Auskicker of the Year.

Oscar Head from Easts Bulldogs, Emmalee Beggs from Concord GIANTS JAFC, and Shaun Hohnke from Gungahlin Jets, along with the other 19 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year nominees, presented Hawthorn players with their Toyota AFL Premiership Medals at the 2013 Grand Final in Melbourne.

Hawthorn legend Shane Crawford made his first NSW appearance as NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador in August when he visited Auskickers in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra regions.

Crawford began his day at Shoalhaven Auskick Centre in Nowra, taking part in Auskick activities and running a clinic for the local kids, as well as presenting awards at the Shoalhaven Auskick end of year presentation.

Crawford followed this by participating in an Auskick Clinic at Hollymount Park in the Illawarra, and stayed on after the clinic to address Auskick participants and sign autographs for the crowd.

Easts Auskickers also hit the headlines when six sets of twins registered for their Auskick program this year amongst a record 150 participants.
And
YEAR IN REVIEW: FACILITIES
AFL NSW/ACT has supported clubs to lodge 34 applications for facilities development this year, while driving the completion of 21 projects.
Our facilities are the backbone of our game and help encourage new people to the sport, as well as making playing AFL a worthwhile experience for those already involved.

The AFL delivered the first-ever synthetic AFL facility outside of Victoria - and the first in NSW/ACT -at Narrabeen Sports High School, in association with Pittwater Council.

Long-term, the AFL is collaboratively working to deliver 43 current projects; including the GWS GIANTS Training and Administration Facility at Sydney Olympic Park, Manuka Oval and Drummoyne Oval lighting, the CBD and South East Light Rail Project with Transport for NSW, completion of the SCG redevelopment, and redevelopment of Number 1 Sportsground in Newcastle.

In the south of New South Wales, AFL NSW/ACT worked with Wagga Wagga City Council to complete the $5 million redevelopment of Robertson Oval in time for the AFL NAB Cup clash between the GWS GIANTS and Brisbane Lions, which was played in front of more than 7,500.

$200,000 of works are currently underway as part of the 2013 Joss and AFL Community Grants, across five venues in Corowa, Deniliquin, and Wagga Wagga. Works are planned at Oaklands, Hillston, Barooga and Finley with many projects likely to be complete for the 2014 winter season.

On the Hunter/Central Coast, the AFL has contributed to the proposed upgrade of Number 1 Sportsground in Newcastle. The AFL is working closely with Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Wyong and Gosford Councils to see improvements at Hillsborough Oval, Feighan Oval, Max McMahon Oval, Don Small Oval, Northlakes Oval, Adcock Park, Rodgers Park and Saratoga Oval.

Number 1 Sportsground in Newcastle hosted the Swans reserves for a NEAFL fixture this season, attracting more than 1,500 spectators to the venue.

In Northern NSW, the AFL has signed a 21 year licence agreement with Port Macquarie Hastings Council, securing tenure and access to Wayne Richards Park. The AFL also supported Northern Rivers clubs, Tweed Coast, Casino and Macleay Valley to apply to the Joss and AFL Community Facility Grant Program.

In the Sydney Harbour/Illawarra region, there were amenity upgrades at ELS Hall in Ryde, planning is underway for a full size synthetic oval at Blackman Park in Lane Cove, and work has begun on a new surface and floodlights at Bat and Ball Oval.

Broadcast level lighting has been installed at Drummoyne Oval as well as a new surface at Jubilee Oval in Glebe, there are 100 new lux lights at Bonaira Oval in Kiama, new tiered seating at Myimbarr Sporting Complex in Shellharbour, and a new surface and floodlighting in Leichhardt.

In Greater Western Sydney, a new surface, electronic scoreboard, and awnings was installed at both Ovals at Greygums Reserve in Cranebrook. A new awning and viewing platform at Cook Park in St Mary’s was developed, and a new canteen is being built for the 2014 season at Dukes Oval in Emu Plains.

Plans are underway for improvements at Monarch Oval in Campbelltown, a new oval, amenities building and electronic scoreboard at George Park in Bathurst are being developed, and new amenities and a clubhouse facility at Bargo will be complete in 2014.

On the South Coast and ACT region, surface improvements and new visitors amenities for players and officials have been completed at Ainslie Oval in Canberra, a new AFL/cricket facility to NEAFL standard has been developed at Kippax Oval in Belconnen, and work has begun on new amenities grandstand improvements, surface works, and a car park upgrade at NEAFL venue Dairy Farmers Park in Queanbeyan.
Wow.....just wow! And now for RD and AFLC to deny deny deny! And what's RL doing in Vic, SA, Tas and WA..........nothing absolutely nothing!

YEAR IN REVIEW: AFL 9S
As a huge year winds down, we'll be recapping AFL NSW/ACT highlights of 2013 all of this week, beginning with a wrap of AFL 9s football.

AFL’s newest game grew again in 2013 with more than 4,000 people enjoying the fun and social aspects of AFL 9s.

4276 people played AFL 9s in 2013, more than 32 per cent more participants than in 2012.

The strongest regions were Sydney Harbour and the ACT, and these continue to be the benchmark for AFL 9s competitions across the state.

Fantastic results were seen in the regional areas; including Wagga Wagga, Bathurst and Pambula, and the Pambula competition has set a precedent for quality competitions in regional areas.

The competition donated its profits to a house building project in Cambodia, demonstrating the wonderful spirit of the local community.

AFL 9s featured at half-time of three games this year: at StarTrak Oval in Canberra, and ANZ Stadium and Skoda Stadium in Sydney. The teams had the experience of a lifetime as they played on an elite AFL field in front of a large AFL crowd.

The inagural AFL Beach 9s competition was trialled in the Hunter/Central Coast region at Redhead beach, driven by the Warners Bay JAFC. This was a great success and there are plans to replicate the model in two other locations in spring 2014.

AFL 9s was introduced to federal politics with a group of parliamentary members playing a game in Canberra, while university students in Sydney got in on the action with an event held at Sydney University as part of the inter-faculty sport competition.
Wow....Just Wow! 32% improvement! Not bad for a recreation only going for a few years! That's more than play RL in Vic!

I think all those upgrades are real ? Be hard to fake them I think. I think all annual reports try for a positive spin but there appears to a break down of the numbers here.

I'm not sure why it matters. The nrl should be looking at what the AFL is doing and take note. Many nrl fans that post, even some on here, agree. Any way you want to cut it the AFL is being progressive, and growing the game at grassroots. Whereas the nrl look like amaturw hour with their growth and support of nrl on non traditional areas

Why do people get to foaming at the mouth in regard for their hatred of AFL??? It's just a report but the abuse, put downs, and hysteria is like someone insulted their mother'a honour or something? It's just a game lads. You have to admit the AFL look professional and are intent on growing the game. Do the nrl produce similar reports for say their push into Western Australia? Just wondering.
