AFL north of the Murray

Post by TLPG »

I saw that AFLC has repeatedly claimed that footy isn't played north of the Murray, and because NRLC has him blocked I guess it's up to me - the grass roots expert - to provide the evidence. And I'll go north of the Barassi line because it would take too long to weed out the New South Wales teams playing in Victorian competitions such as Ovens and Murray, Murray, Central Murray and Sunraysia. In fact it would be easier to link my personal website, but as that has my real name I won't.

yup, AFL has managed every facet of their game brilliantly. full credit to them.

nrl has been okay at best, largely relying on the product to sell itself.

they just need to incorporate touch footy and oz tag and use that to sell the game. the world is getting less violent and in the future i doubt participation for contact sports will be extremely high. that's one of the biggest assets of soccer. they're starting to do it now, just need to do it more effectively and sell memberships through it.

but i think that a desire to watch contact sports will exist for far longer, the romans liked watching people get killed as gladiators, we do the same just with movies and video games. seems like a perennial aspect of humans.

they've done well in NZ through touch footy and using their increased buying power to poach tonnes of players as juniors who may or may not have played Super 15/ABs. that's helped a lot. just need to keep expanding through homegames in wellington (2 next year is a must) and then maybe 1 in dunedin or another town.

perth team is a given that it will be introduced whenever possible depending on media deals etc.

To NRLC. i dont think i've ever said it is NOT played north of the murray.... it's presence in terms of what people follow and watch is limited (there's more to that than crowds but NRL > AFL in that too once you add up the multiple clubs. 10 in NSW, 3 in QLD).

All the NRL supporters were in denial over it.

Fyiar, did you count the number of clubs? And TLPG didn't even include Sydney or Canberra, although Canberra is on the Victorian side of the Barassi line so I guess that's why he didn't include it. That's interest! And yet how many clubs are there in AFL heartland outside of NSW/ACT and QLD? That's the real telling factor. And guess what? If participation rates are down it's going to decrease the quality of output and result in poorer quality at elite level!

Right?

Touch will HARM rugby league, not help it.

pHyR3 what you said is true, with the soccer, thats where it has the advantage, its the most represented sport in Aus with kids up until the age of 16, because it is least physical of the football codes, but after that it falls away dramatically, then participation rates of the AFL & NRL lead the way. over the years the AFL & pretty sure the NRL has played around with the rules of each game in an effort to take away the series injuries especially with head high contact.

I WAS TALKING ABOUT RL CLUBS AS WELL YOU GOOSE!!!

How many are there in Victoria, SA, WA and Tasmania???

As far as touch harming rugby league is concerned - here we go again. I express an opinion based in pure logic and you want proof in numbers in effect. You think about this. Think about the basic difference between touch and RL. Tackling. That is RL's bread and butter. What would touch do in relation to improving the most important aspect of RL. Absolutely NOTHING! It will DIScourage tackling in fact!

Come on, come up with a counter to that seeing as you think you're so smart!

you express an opinion in pure logic? there's one for the highlight reels.

QUOTE ME WHERE YOU proved increasing touch participation to widen potential NRL audience would lead to a deteriment of the NRL in crowds/memberships in previous posts

many touch stars have gone on to become NRL stars. case in point, BENJI MARSHALL. not to mention Shaun Johnson and many more i'm sure.

tackling is important, but many people do not play any form of the game as they do not like the contact aspect. especially older people and younger people. so increasing prospective audience would benefit the game.

i asked on another thread if i can block people. you have some serious issues you need to work through, although blatant stupidity is hard to resolve at the best of times. obviously you will retort with "haha he's running away" and simply i couldn't care lesss what a brain dead idiot has to say over the internet about me.

You are blatantly stupid, because in order for the game to have a future, you have to have PLAYERS! And here you are putting spectators ahead of playing numbers. Hey, dummy, the more players there are, the higher the competition which leads to better quality players! So a few fluked it making the change from touch to league. So what? Get back to me when it's a tidal wave of them - and that will NEVER happen!

I think it was you calling on the NRL to be managed better. Well, the first thing that needs to happen is to expand the game like the AFL have done. Expand playing numbers! Get people interested in playing the game. Not an unrelated jib, which is what touch is! Auskick is a lot closer to AFL than touch is to league!

You fail the test of logic if you can't understand and accept the above. And you care about what I say, otherwise you wouldn't be replying. Go suck a lemon, sour puss.

Auskick closer to AFL than touch to league is complete opinion. Both are non contact versions of the sport.

no, i understand your logic. but you hadn't presented this before. but you're simply wrong mate. getting people interested in the game can be done both through contact and non contact versions of the sport (as seen in Auskick) and will lead to increased spectators (tv or crowds).

you're right participation is important, that's why soccer is so popular. it's a non contact sport. thus we must counter it in a similar manner.

look mate, i'm bored of arguing with you but unfortunately you're the only one who continues to argue as the others aren't quite as braindead.

another call for how to block people on the forum? couldn't find it....

Auskick is NOT non contact! It is non tackle. Just to correct that piece of misinformation, and that should correct the rest of that attempt at logic.

If you're bored arguing with me I shouldn't be getting a reply to this comment from you.
