The nobility of standing up for oneself

Post by King-Eliagh »

Howdy Folks!

Well...first of all I'd like to caution the majority of our members of the AFL persuasion that viewing the following CCTV Footage may raise your already high oestrogen levels and create those disturbing unsettling emotions within you to boil and spurt out on these pages in teary whelps and yelps of rubbish like "but whaaaaaat about the children" and "violence doesnt solve anything" and, one of my favs, "we should leave the authorities to deal with these matter" i.e. let wankers cop a slap on the wrist for heinous crimes like squirrel grips and king hits.

So the british police on seeing this footage cleared billy of all wrongdoing and in fact suggested he may press charges. Why then is this not allowed on our sporting fields??? And in particular in the AFL where players are increasingly using and getting away with dog like lowly acts on the footy field while any man who stands up and acts in self defense, like billly slater, is given 10 weeks off. And worse still in the AFL we've seen others resorting to pinching and scratching because their natural masculine responses have been so drilled out of them. [-X It's an awful state of affairs.

Hey wait on .
If the biggest baddest derpballer ever big bad Benny Hill was there he would have punched that pommy git too.
Only true to form he would have hit first when the pom had his back turned...He got a Hardman(Yes have a giggle,)rep in derpball for being a king hitter ,& was proclaimed by all as a future champion boxer.

Only trouble for Barney is someone told him his opponent would be facing him ,so he chickened out & never had a fight.

read & laugh.

A FORMER NBL star is filthy with Barry Hall for backing out of a planned professional fight in May.

Part-time Gold Coast "RSL fighter" John Szigeti claims Hall's camp ditched the stink after learning he was better with his fists than first thought.

"His promoter wants an 80 per cent chance that Hall will win, rather than a 50-50 fight, and that's what it would be with me," Szigeti said. "Maybe that is a bit too risky for a prima-donna like Hall.

"I thought the whole idea was he wanted credibility and didn't want to come out and fight chumps and follow in the footsteps of Sonny Bill Williams?"

At 203cm tall and with eight wins from 10 bouts, Szigeti first made contact with the Hall camp last year. After advanced talks to get the former St Kilda, Sydney and Western Bulldogs sharpshooter in the ring, negotiations broke down.
"It is a bit of a shame that it is taking forever for the hardest man ever to play AFL to make his mind up to fight a 40-year-old retired basketballer and part-time boxer," Szigeti told colleague Nick Smart.

Issues of self defence are in Billy's favour obviously - what Paul Gallen did was just like the gutless pom did in the footage "STIKE FIRST", Billy was in a crowded night club with an obviously intoxicated aggressor (Billy has his hand on his chest in an apparent gesture to calm the situation). So the two that incidents are clearly different and have no comparison. Gallen attacked an opponent for playing harder in previous games, what Gallen did was gutless, unprovoked and a typical thugs way of playing sport - there simply is no comparison! (Note had Billy continued to strike him then his actions would have been excessive and have no fear he would be facing the old bailey!). So ends the lesson!

I personally don't think slater acted out of self defence, it was more retaliation. I don't care who does it, violence isnt acceptable in today's society, and being hit shouldn't give you the right to retaliate with violence. As I said, 2 wrongs don't make a right.

While I agree with your point I am merely stating a legal perspective - this thread is an obvious attempt to justify unprovoked violence whilst playing sport to an incident where an assault provokes an assault in retaliation. ( That's the conclusion I think the Police reached and decided self defence was sufficiently raised)

Question - Why don't the police get involved when there are punches on a sporting field? Because it's not in their jurisdiction unless a formal complaint is made. So the sporting bodies can make their own rules and if they want to be tough about it with suspensions then let them! It's sport's way of getting it out of there! And the cops accept that!
