Rugby league in the south not non-existent but just about!

Post by Swans4ever »

We are always hearing about what AFL are doing in the Northern states of NSW and QLD, but we never talk about rugby league in the southern states, so with a population of 23269722,
NSW has the largest population with 7381000
QLD 4638000.
ACT 382000
Northern Territory 238000 (although the bureau of statistics count this state as its number one code as being AF)
Total player registration 2168 in 71 teams with 15 clubs (the NTRL only lists 8 clubs)
Making a total population of 12639000

So how does RL participation wise rate in the states of Victoria, Sth Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania - where the remaining 10630722

From http://rugbyleague2013.nrl.com/PDF/NRL- ... e-2013.pdf
Victoria population - 5713000 - total 2774 registered players in 84 teams in 24 clubs
(VRL website lists only 2 regional clubs (Geelong and Sunraysia) with 12 clubs in the Melbourne Metro area
(One of the clubs is listed separately as Sunbury Juniors and Seniors so it may be there are 11 Senior and 11 junior clubs)

South Australia population - 1667500 - total 1054 registered players in 36 teams with 12 clubs
(However the SARL website only lists 9 clubs)

Western Australia population 2497500 - Total registered players 2733 in 125 teams and 18 clubs
(With the WARL listing two leagues the 1st being the WARL local competition with 9 clubs and the Pilbara with 7 clubs - however very few clubs were able to be located on sporting pulse even though they are supposably linked?)

Tasmania population 512900 - total registered players 109 in 4 clubs (the Tasmanian RL had 5 clubs listed which is different from other states)

So out of 167573 total player registrations in Australia excluding NSW, Queensland and the ACT there is a total of 8838 that play the game in the rest of Australia, ONLY ONE player is currently playing in the NRL from those states - after 100 years and all their chest beating and arrogance 95% of their players live in either NSW/ACT or QLD - RL pretty irrelevant everywhere else in Australia!

This is an excert from the 2010 ERASS report on sports participation in Australia, rugby league not even mentioned - yt they tell us its Australias number one code - who's fudging now!
Participation in club-based physical activity
• The total participation rate in club-based physical activity was 25.7% in 2010.
• An estimated 1.1 million persons aged 15 years and over participated at least three times per week
in club-based physical activity, a regular participation rate of 6.3%.
• In club-based physical activity, and in contrast to non-organised physical activity, the male regular
participation rate (7.9%) exceeded the female rate (4.8%).
PARTICIPATION IN EXERCISE, RECREATION AND SPORT SURVEY 2010 ANNUAL REPORT 3 © Standing Committee on Recreation and Sport 2011
‘Club-based physical activity’ is any physical activity for exercise, recreation or sport that was organised in full or in part by a sport or recreation club or association that required payment of membership, fees or registration. This was distinct from fitness, leisure or sports centres that required payment for participation.
* Regular participation in club-based physical activity increased slightly for both males and females between 2001 and 2010 (three percentage points for males, one percentage point for females). The male regular participation rate in club-based physical activity was at its highest level ever in 2009, but declined slightly between 2009 and 2010.
Regardless of gender, regular participation in club-based physical activity was most common **** those aged 15 to 24 years (17.7%).
*The top ten club-based physical activities in 2010, in terms of total participation rate, were golf, outdoor football, netball, Australian rules football, tennis, outdoor cricket, lawn bowls, touch football, basketball and martial arts.
* Of these, Australian rules football, outdoor football, outdoor cricket, basketball, netball, lawn bowls and martial arts all experienced increases in participation between 2001 and 2010. Much of the increase in participation for both Australian rules football and outdoor football occurred in the period 2007 to 2010.
Of all top ten club-based activities, tennis (–13%) had the greatest decline in participation between 2001 and 2010.

Participation Category
Retrospective 2010-11 Retrospective 2011-12
1. Full Active Membership – Adult 154868 149492
2. Full Active Membership – Junior 70211. 67006
3. Program Participants. 14813. 7998
4. Event Participants. 22936. 33382
5. School Delivered Programs. 54021. 64594
6. School Managed Competitions. 129260. 140582
7. Accredited Volunteer Participants. 33000. 36974
Total Participation. 479109. 500028

State by state participation (page 20)

ACT 3497
NATIONAL. 2444 (WTF is this double counting or what!)
NSW. 5869
NT. 1329
QLD. 6762
SA. 3731
Tas. 178
Vic. 7118
WA. 6
Re-configuration of the TFA database will be a major priority for 2012-13. The database currently has information dating back to 1995, which shows there are 551,731 members (potential duplicates) with 246,140 email addresses (to be fully verified).
State-by-state participation summaries are provided, with the partner states of New South Wales and Queensland in this section.
The unified states are provided within the Unified Management section of this report.

If you look at the tables there IS an awful lot of double counting, who knows what is the right number - clearly they go by e-mails and NOT registrations! Also interesting that THEY ALSO count school participation numbers - so the bum sniffers tell us we cant count school participation but they can - what a bunch of hypocrites!

Also if you look at page 23 it appears "Touch football" is in signifigant decline!

This is the most curious of the touch stats
3. Program Participants. 14813. 7998
4. Event Participants. 22936. 33382
5. School Delivered Programs. 54021. 64594
6. School Managed Competitions. 129260. 140582
7. Accredited Volunteer Participants. 33000. 36974

Event participants? - so every time they have an EVENT that increases their participation? What a fucking joke - school delieverd programs and school managed comps - comon give me a break is the same thing in addition to my earlier comment
AND they count volunteers as participants who more than likely have already been included as participants in the member category - yes RL the best at fudging no wonder they joined together!

TFA had 308 active affiliated competitions in the 2011- 12 period, with 16 TFA managed locations taking the overall total to 324, which is an overall increase of six (6) locations, indicating growth of 1.8 percent.
Throughout 2011-12, the focus for TFA has continued to be the delivery of the affiliated Touch Football product. In 2010-11, we reported a decrease of 2.9 percent in seniors and a growth of 1.9 percent in juniors. In 2011-12, Touch Football senior participation has decreased by 3.11 percent, or 424 teams, from the 10-11 period.
Junior participation also decreased by 3.39 percent in the 11-12 period, down 209 teams from the 10-11 period. This is a concerning trend however; can be linked to timing or notification of competitions which must be remedied in the future.
At the time of publication, TFA has recorded 8,513 senior teams and 5,355 junior teams in Season 2 2011, for competitions commencing between July 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. For Season 1 2012, TFA has recorded 4,692 senior teams and 601 junior teams for competitions commencing between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2012.

Individual participants, based on the historical figure of 11.25 participants per team, equate to 149,492 for seniors and 67,005 for juniors for the 2011-12 period, with an overall Touch Football participation figure of 215,381.
Provided is a breakdown of state senior and junior team numbers for the 2011-12 period along with comparison figures from 2010-11.

YEAH - your really ontop of AF now - hahaha you bum sniffers had to merge as TFA is on the way out!
