Dwindling NRL Crowds - a major concern

The NRL sold out their fans to the tv networks with scheduling and now they're paying the price with the people clearing saying they are no longer interested. Oh dear NRL think about your fans for once will ya. [-X
"Everyone is trying to find reasons for why the crowds are down..."

"It's why I truly believe a firm stadium policy is now the No.1 priority in league. You can't just snap your fingers to create crowds. If you build it they will come ... and right now we're not building it."

"But now the NRL is working to implement it because new CEO Dave Smith gets it. You only have to look at the AFL, they play the biggest games at the biggest venues and at the right times. That's how they've grown their crowds."

the NRL's crowds are down just 30 fans a game since 2005 , the only code in this country to pretty much hold their average in tough economic times

the VFL has lost ova 6,000

6,000 a game

in just 2 years

& our crowds are a concern

worry about the decline in your game dickhead
worry about the fact that even with freebies , plus many stadium members padding the crowd & all the hype in the media , a crowd of STILL probably less then 30K will turn up to watch the VFL premiers in Sydney
because no one these days really ... gives a fuck about the Victorian game outside its heartland

the NRL will be ahead of its 2012 tally after this weekend
& well ahead of it going into rnd 7

can the VFL confidently claim they will be in a similar possie

bearsy ?

anything ?

bearsy ???

Why according to the article posted above is everyone in NRL circles desperately trying to find an answer to the dwindling crowds issue in the NRL?

Your game tonight at ANZ Stadium will have how many ANZ Stadium members in attendance not to mention all the freebies given out at the Easter Show next door today. Will you crack 40,000 with all that going for you? Hmm, time will tell I guess.

it still would have been 80k V to just 20K ... from you halfwitted shirt lifters

I asked a question

will the VFL be in the same position ?

even with the above
we'd of been lucky to get 30K a few years back , the fact we'll whop this number shows our games continued growth

however can the victorian game claim the same in Sydney

the swines were attracting crowds of 60K at ANZ in 2006 & 7 when they were premiers / a top side .. similar to what they are now
didn't they ?

yet here we are with 2 sydney sides ..... 2
& if they get to 30K to a derby between the 2 ( one is the premier folks) ...... they'll be throwing a party

the decline
its .. whats that term again bearsy ?

a ... major concern ?

Wow, that's convincing. You half filled a small stadium =D> =D>

The NRL are desperately scratching to climb above 17k average yet are failing dismally, despite playing almost all games in their heartland.

The AFL will climb steadily back up to previous levels which will be astounding given it will include more than double the number games in expansion states.

Wow, just wow

enough of your but but butting cockhead , thats no more valid a reason for declining crowds in your dying sport then our code playing in tiny stadiums restricting our ability to increase our average
answer the question

will the VFL be well ahead of their 2012 tally going into rnd 7... like the NRL will be

they won't will they ?

the only place your sport is even holding its own ... is in Vic
hell only 39K attended the western derby in WA

10K seats were vacant in Adelaide

the Wions can't attract 20K members , yet less then 6 years ago they had 30K
if the Thuns ( who had an average of 20K just 2 years ago ) keep their average above 10K this year they'll be doing well
the swines . even as the premiers
will stroll out to a near 2/3 empty ANZ .. a ground they filled 2/3 regularly just a few years ago
the Midgets have just 3500 members in western sydney ... & regularly play to crowds of less then 5k there despite 40 to 50 million spent on their set up

when will you clowns understand
you're game is in decline ... huge decline

its had its day ..
Vicky kicky has tried & failed pretty much everywhere except its very own backyard in Melb & some success in WA & SA which is faltering too

its gone about 2cm outward since 1896
the reality is stark & harsh

but one that must be dealt with

NRL Down miniscule amount compared to 6k down in 2 years for the AFL is quite alarming..... :-k :-k :-k

400k less fans through the gate in 2012 compared to 2011 and you even had 198 games in 2012 compared to 176 in 2010.......MAJOR CONCERN....

No, your code celebrates embarrassingly low homeland crowds of 20k and hides behind small stadiums. Your crowds at larger stadiums are just as crap

enough of your but but butting cockhead , thats no more valid a reason for declining crowds in your dying sport then our code playing in tiny stadiums restricting our ability to increase our average answer the question, will the VFL be well ahead of their 2012 tally going into rnd 7... like the NRL will be they won't will they ?
what are you talking about? Your codes average is 16k, the storms is 12k. Put a team in Perth and your average would drop without question. How the hell was the AFL going to average 36k to games in Goldcoast, ACT and Western Sydney? Add live TV for every game for the first time ever and crowds were always going to drop. These factors won't change so the crowds will stabilise.

Why have the NRL crowds stagnated despite no change? Why are they down this year despite no poor weather other than last night?
the only place your sport is even holding its own ... is in Vic
hell only 39K attended the western derby in WA

10K seats were vacant in Adelaide
both games were sold out.
the Wions can't attract 20K members , yet less then 6 years ago they had 30K

crowd sizes follow success. Victorian teams have dominated in the last 6 years so Victorians crowds are up. Brisbane and Adelaide teams have struggled, so have Perths. Sydney is an aberration and clearly due to two factors, a new AFL team in Sydney which will have taken some fans, SCG renovations.

when will you clowns understand
you're game is in decline ... huge decline
yet more revenue and ratings than ever before
its had its day ..
Vicky kicky has tried & failed pretty much everywhere except its very own backyard in Melb & some success in WA & SA which is faltering too
interesting, sell out crowds in both states, more members than ever.

The AFL is national and 40years ahead of the nRL. Growing pains may have declined some crowds in the last 2 years but the results will be seen in 10 years time when all teams are competitive and all have strong following.

but one that must be dealt with
1) Subiaco Stadium only holds 43,000 you idiot. Game was a sellout.
2) AAMI Stadium was a sellout. Couldn't buy tickets (I know because I had friends keen on going that couldn't). The game was on at 8:00 at night, which made it impossible for country members to come. Let's see the Broncos get 42,000 at 8:00 at night in the pouring rain you ******.
3) If the Lions make the finals see the bandwagoners jump on as fast as they jump off the Broncos.
4) The Swans are still the highest drawing team in sydney across all football codes, and have been for the past 18 years in a row. Until that is no longer true, you can't hang shit on the Swans. Their direct comparison in the nRL the Storm, haven't even been able to beat the attendances of the Bulldogs or the Kangas.
5) For the last time, give us a fkn source for your insane bullish*t numbers re: the Giants' 2013 WS membership figures or STFU. The whole point of an internet forum is to make a compelling argument, and when you repeatedly use fictional figures you lose what little credibility you had.

Let me break the situation down further for you. This is the short term pain period for the AFL, following the tough decision to expand into areas that didn't want a team. Both new clubs play out of stadiums that hold less people than the league average attendance, so by simple mathematics, even if they sold out every week (which noone was naive enough to think would happen) they would always bring down the league crowd average. But their crowds - during a period of AWFUL onfield performances - were comparable with what heartland nRL clubs were getting. Hell the Suns actually beat the Titans in their first year. But where they've really made strides is in helping to grow the game. Participation on the GC and WS is well up. Dismiss it all you want. We love t when you dismiss the participation growth, we hope you keep ignoring it. Death by a thousand cuts is what'll end your wretched sport.

Port Adelaide had the worst period in their history, but that looks to be turning around. Where previously they had dodgy SA ATM operators as sponsors, they now have international car maker Renault. They have a President with a national profile, 30,000 members, and next year move to a centralised city stadium.

Brisbane made some shocking errors which cost them fans, from Fev to the Paddlepop Lion, but they're building, and just you watch the theatre goers jump back on.

The Storm have been as successful as any team in any sport in recent memory, and they still can't grow. They can't make a dent with all of the help of News Ltd and the Hun, and when News leave and their golden trio of stars retire, they are utterly clunged.

You say you've only lost 30 fans per gme since 2005, I say you haven't managed to grow your game in 7 years. You've peaked. The AFL can explain its recent drop with the introduction of 2 teams that were thrashed on the field each week. What's your excuse?

Reynolds had the ball on a string as the Rabbitohs moved to 4-0, his pin-point kick for Nathan Merritt's second half match-winner capping a brilliant display before an NRL regular season record crowd of 51,686 at ANZ Stadium.

Where was I wrong eels?

I love the mass circle jerking on LU over a crowd that is beaten 30 or more times by the AFL each season!m

They carry on like crowds means nothing then come out with comments like this once they finally get a dent one:
Crowd looks great on tv. The game is so much more enjoyable to watch with huge crowds

We know. We get crowd like this every single week
