NRL - boring

Post by Xman »

As the NRL attempts to sell itself as a $1 billion television product, damning statistics that show why the game is becoming more boring to watch.

In 2012, the NRL's entertainment value has nose-dived because it is being bogged down by a wrestling epidemic, illegal and go-slow tactics that has resulted in fewer tries, fewer offloads and fewer line breaks than ever before.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/nrl- ... 6331029255

So, while our forums RL fans are celebrating the NRL as a more even competition, probably due to lower, closer scores, this has come at the expense of excitement with even fans complaining the game is becoming boring! #-o

No wonder this years crowds for the NRL are lower than any of the last 6 years!

NRL, the boring code!

Well as the article points out this is a easy Fix, and i disagree with what he has written.
1 game last week was boring between NEW vs STG but have to say i would rather have this minor problem Than the decade long problem the AFL have on there hands right now.
An uneven comp that cant be Fixed in the next decade because talent just isn't there to spread between the clubs. ATM there are 5 basketcase teams with no chance of making the top Half of the ladder.

yep eels ... no doubt about it

what would one prefer

a comp where its a bit tighter then usual ... but close & competitive where you know your team can win

or

blows outs ... uneveness .. lop sided scorelines
where teams will not win .. because they simply cannot win

the NRL is all ova the VFL here

Yeah and its a quick fix for us, we have Bill Harrigan as the best ref in my time imo he has done some good things in charge of the Referees and think he will make a quick fix here.

NRL had one mediocre game last week, the AFL has 5 games over by QTR time so put that in perspective Xman.

And which 5 would that be? :-k

The NRL had 3 smashings last week with one team not even scoring! Three other games had a team only scoring once for the entire game!

So half the NRLs games last week had a team score no more than a single try for 80 minutes! #-o

No wonder their own fans are crying BORING!!!

Low scoring matches are some of the best matches i've ever seen. Attack is only half the game, or less than half actually. If i see scorelines where both teams score over 18points in RL the quality of the game is usually lower because it is more likely the defence of both teams was not a standout or effective. Really you need balance between great attack and great defence in a good game.

Xman is clearly a simpleton if he thinks high scores means interest. In the AFL comp, a game where goals come relatively easy and therefore are not as meaningful as a try in NRL, good defence and a balanced game also makes a better game than when both teams score 110plus.

Xman you poo dribbler, wipe your mouth, dunk your head in a toilet bowl and flush a few times before you come back in here you filthy animal.

It depends on what your preference is really, Canterbury vs Melbourne was low scoring but a gem of a game.
The worst game of the round without doubt was STG VS NEW this game was in the boring category due to kicking dead not wrestling, this is why i disagree with the article.
The rest of the games were high scoring or low so it really is your preference.

You wrongly claimed the AFL had 5 games over by quarter time. I'm wondering which you think they were.

The truth:
Carlton were 23 points up at quarter time but only 22 points up at half time, so no this game. [-X

Richmond were 13 points up at quarter time and 14 points up at half time, so not this game. [-X

Sydney were 11 points up at quarter time and only 3 points up at 3/4 time, so not this game. [-X

Fremantle were behind at 1/4 time and only 11 points up at 3/4 time, so not this game. [-X

Essendon were 21 points up at 1/4 time but were behind late in the last quarter, so not this game [-X

Stkilda were up by 21 points at 1/4 time, but as shown by the essendon game, this is a modest lead in today's football, so not this game [-X

GWS were way behind but playing the top of the ladder. However WC only won by just over their 1/4 margin. So yes, this game.

Hawthorn were one goal in front at 1/4 time, so not this game [-X

Nth Melbourne were 22 points up at 1/4 time and 21 points up at 1/2 time, against the reigning premiers, so not this game [-X

So which 5 games?

If I have the memory of a fish, you've got the intelligence of one! #-o
