AFL crowds and TV ratings up up UP!!

Well this first round was a smashing start to the AFL's 2012 season.

Firstly the crowd total was 367,671, an average of 40,852. Not only was it the most attended first round ever it was the second most attended round in AFL history, falling short of the record by only a few hundred. It was an increase of 15.7% on last years first round attendance total.

Secondly the TV ratings were an amazing TOTAL of 5.298 million!! Last years round 1 total was 3.167M. Thats an increase of 2,085k or 66%!!!

I just finished tallying the ratings up myself. Nearly fell off the chair when I got the total of nearly 5.3 million viewers.

Add the increase in crowds and the AFL is booming.

Just 6,000 short of 2010 (317,895) which is the current record. Still up on last years aggregate for round 2 in a round which featured a north v gws match in tasmania - the average crowd for the round is HIGHER than the same round last season. Remarkable.

the VFL game between self annoited world famous melbourne suburbs .. that hardly anyone north of the murray cared .. or even knew was on..
its crowd was down on the 2011's corresponnding game by ova 3K
