AFL alive and well in Perth

Post by Xman »

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/br ... ship-fees/

This article says the Dockers are 6% up on memberships from last year and tracking for 43k. The Eagles are full up (50k) and have a waiting list for memberships of 9383 Families. :D

The only thing holding back massive attendance increases in Perth is the stadium size of 40k! This will be addressed when they finish their new stadium in the coming years.

Lets look at this further. :-k So Perth have around 100k members for the two AFL teams from a city of 1.8 million people. Plus many people still follow the SANFL.

Meanwhile the broncos have 24k from 2 million people and the titans an Embarrasing 6k from 600k.

That's the difference boys. The AFL is so strong in its heartland it is now expanding aggressively. Meanwhile the NRL is struggling in its heartland and any thoughts of expansion are laughable.

This is your typical response. You realize the AFL reigns supreme in its heartland states so you immediately resort to defending NRL heartland. You are conceding essentially.

The thing is the AFL is far far stronger in its homeland than NRL is in its, as proven by these figures. Titans are stuffed, raiders dying, penrith dying, sharks dying, cowboys struggling, crowds down, ratings down.. And on and on it goes

So while the NRL desperately clings on to its status quo in its own heartland states the AFL is now expanding in to NRL heartland with some force! =D>

WA has already spoken when it comes to RL. The Western Reds are gone as a result.

Yep, their one and only match drew only 15k in perfect weather. It did last year too but the weather was used as an excuse. #-o

Gees, just 15,000 odd supporters for RL in Perth and they want to put a team there. #-o

is a record crowd for an RL game at NIB stadium

well done NRL

that sort of turnout will be a weekly occurance when the Reds return in 2015
& with live coverage back in NSW & QLD

& some great new timeslots
2nd Friday game live at 9.30pm (7.30pm WA time )
the 3rd super sat game .. same as above .. live not delayed..)
4pm Sunday FTA game live in the East at 2pm WA time
or
a 5pm kickoff time in WA ... beamed live on Pay at 7pm on a Sunday back into the East

broadcasters telling the ARLC already .. theres an extra 100 mill ova 5 years if you start a side up in Perth
Mr Gallop says

ok then
yes
yes we will

Feel free to set up a team in Perth. But with a single game attendance for the entire year of 15k, and TV ratings for live games of similar numbers, its destined to go down the track of all the failed NRL teams on the gold coast, a supposed RL heartland! #-o

Grant said while the ARLC was keen to grow the sport, the prospect of granting two more NRL licences was not a fait accompli.

"The fact that some people are jumping the gun (on expansion), I can't help that," Grant said last night.

"While we really appreciate the interest and the work of the bid teams, it really is early days and we need to decide what to do as a business strategically to keep the existing clubs financially strong.

"At this point in time it is premature for consortiums to be putting forward their bids now. People are getting overly enthusiastic about (expansion) and it's probably not what we'd suggest that they do.

"As a commission we need to decide where we believe expansion will suit us, if in fact we decide to do that at all.

"2015 has been suggested as a potential date for expansion but the Commission has not considered this and won't be for some time."

Hmm Dave. Jumping the gun much? :-k

Your own commission says this is not even planned yet. In fact it is not even decided it will happend. It certainly won't be included in your next tv deal that's for sure. The NRL commission can see the existing problems in the NRl, such as the raiders, titans, panthers, sharks, cowboys. They know these teams need support before spending huge cash on expansion.

Mark my words, no expansion in the NRL for at least 5 years!
