Stats that Prove the AFL is the No.1 Sport in Australia

Post by Beaussie »

Wow, amazing stats for the great Australian game. :thumbleft:
■ One in every 35 Australians is a member of an elite AFL club

■ Over 620,000 members in total- more than double nearest competitor (league)

■ Over 7 million annual attendees

■ AFL ranks FIRST amongst all world ball sports for average attendance on a per capita basis

■ Average 4.6 million TV viewers per week – that means 1 in 5 Australians are watching AFL on TV every week

■ Average of 1.6 million radio listeners per week

■ 32% share of voice of all print media Australia wide – 50% more than nearest competitor

■ NSW has the second highest participation level behind Victoria – the traditional home of AFL

■ More than 2,500 community clubs fielding more than 12,170 teams

■ 80,127 female participants across all forms of the game

■ Strong and growing participation in indigenous and multicultural communities

One in every 35 Australians is a member of an elite AFL club
most of these in Victoria

■ Over 620,000 members in total- more than double nearest competitor (league)
less then 10% of this number come from the states that house 60% of the countrys population

■ Over 7 million annual attendees
again mostly in one state .. hardly any outside it

■ AFL ranks FIRST amongst all world ball sports for average attendance on a per capita basis
I'd say the NRL would nearly be 2nd .. big deal

■ Average 4.6 million TV viewers per week – that means 1 in 5 Australians are watching AFL on TV every week
Rugby league overall is watched by more veiwers

■ Average of 1.6 million radio listeners per week
Probably on radio too

■ 32% share of voice of all print media Australia wide – 50% more than nearest competitor
means zilch ..as no one reads about the AFL in the NRL states

■ NSW has the second highest participation level behind Victoria – the traditional home of AFL
nearly all confined to a thin strip above the murray .. hardly anyone watches or plays AFL in the other 95% of the state

■ More than 2,500 community clubs fielding more than 12,170 teams
nearly all in Victoria

■ 80,127 female participants across all forms of the game
nearly all in Victoria

■ Strong and growing participation in indigenous and multicultural communities
Whilst battling nearly daily racial abuse issues from its supporters

AFL has proved it is the number one sport in .. HALF .. of Australia
& isn't in the other

wow
who didn't know that

What a ridiculous post Raider. No facts just your opinion as usual.

Why can't you just admit that the AFL is much more national than Rugby League and the gap between the AFL and NRL in tv/radio ratings, crowds, sponsorship, participation etc etc etc is massive and never going to change no matter how much you wish that was the case.

While I'm impressed with some of these stats, I think I would agree with Raider's points in regards to TV viewers. I really believe that RL has many more viewers on tv.

I also agree with Raiders objection to the last point, which is not even a stat. We have to understand that these 'stats' are clearly presented to promote AFL in the GWS. That's fine and as I said I agree and am impressed with some of them but to suggest there is strong participation in AFL by the multicultural community is fairly deceitful and obviously an attempt to encourage the multicultural population in western sydney to take up the sport. Good luck to them but i think there are better ways to promote than deceitful suggestions such as these. People arent stupid.

Then you're just as stupid as him. Take at look at the ratings on this site and feel free to point out one week of the season in the AFL or NRL where the NRL rated better on tv than the AFL nationwide. You can't can you? ](*,)

Again just your opinion. Never mind facts getting in the way of your deluded reality.

No use asking Raider to prove things Onions, haven't you noticed his pattern of constant personal opinion twisted to look like reality. We're not falling for it Raider. Post some facts for once will ya.
