The AFL had it's watershed garbage game last night. The scoreline said more than enough - the two teams (Hawthorn and St.Kilda) struggled to kick more than ten goals between them.
I only saw a few minutes of the last quarter, but when I saw the score at the top left I thought "Oh for goodness sake!" I was at a wrestling show during intermission - and there was a kid also looking at it who said semi seriously that his Under 11 team could do better! Given what I saw live at a local game earlier in the afternoon (16.16 to 16.14 Spotswood over Hoppers Crossing) I had to agree! The game I saw MURDERED the garbage that was on the box for entertainment value!
I think it's about time the AFL starting fining clubs for this sort of BS! It's ruining the game!
What's wrong with the game!

What do people think of Barassi's bold 12 point plan to revitalise the game:
Read it in the paper today, personally i thinks it's a load of crap there is no way anyone could get away with modifying aussie rules football that much.BARASSI'S 12-POINT PLAN
http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/ ... 22,00.html
1. A goal from outside 50m worth nine points. Ball must go over the line on the full.
2. A rushed behind worth three points.
3. Play on when the ball bounces off goalposts.
4. A player on the ground or on his knees cannot take possession _ he must knock it on.
5. Ball-ups around the ground, not bounces.
6. Sixteen players a team on the field, not 18.
7. Players outside the centre square cannot come in until the ball is bounced and struck by a player.
8. No wrestling at ruck duels.
9. New line-up at centre bounces _ three players per team in forward 50m arc, three in defensive 50m, four in centre square, three in space from the centre line to forward arc, three in space from centre line to defensive arc.
10. Ball must travel between 20-30m before a mark is called.
11. Any kick backwards up to the forward 50m deemed play-on.
12. New interchange line-up _ either four on the bench (two for injuries and two for interchange) or six on the bench (three for injuries and three for interchange).

6 might work. 7 is an idea as well. 9 is NOT new (heck that's the proper line up anyway!).
The rest will NOT help - in fact some of them will only make things worse.
Rewarding high scores are the way to go in my view. Reverse this "stop the other team from winning" mentality. Leave that for soccer, where it belongs! It's not a case of who scores the less goals - it's who scores the more! At least North Melbourne and Carlton had the right idea!

Hey guys, Andrew and Adrian, see what one of the legends of the game has come up with??? A ridiculous 12 point game plan that he has had to come up with to make the game better. Well how about we go back to the original holding the ball rule and the PUSH in the back rule and maybe that would be a good start to getting things back on track. Get rid of Geishen, make umpires full time and lets get back to basics. To stop flooding lets reiterate to coaches that to stop it, you have to man up...derrrr. Stop messing with the game, get back to the game we have all grown up admiring, you are destroying the game and alienating its supporters. Get Wayne Jackson involved, he grew the sport from semi pro to full blown professional. Why do we waste our time writing this when Demetriou thinks he's doing a good job anyway, worst CEO of the AFL ever, too busy counting the dollars from the TV deal. IDIOT!!

Keep Wayne Jackson OUT OF THERE!! The man wrecked the game in Victoria and I'll be putting up a new post about that one!
We need some of the older heads back in there to be honest. And manning up won't stop flooding. We need to encourage scoring as a means of winning, not preventing the other team from scoring!

The one good thing Demetriou has done is get the money for TV rights and if you can explain how it works then you should be CEO TLPG. And in regards to how to stop flooding, the coaches will have to find out new ways to conuter it. Dont let them get off easy and change the rules. I dont give a shit how my team wins, just win........flood, cheat, kill, just win. I'd much rather be ugly winning than sit at the bottom of the ladder looking pretty.
