The following figures really puts into perspective the popularity of the AFL when compared with the NRL. The NRL's first entry on the list is 25. Every AFL grand final has rated better than the NRL.

Yes even when the NRL is broadcast on a Sunday night in prime time as opposed to the Saturday afternoon AFL broadcast. :(/

Oh and where is Rugby League's supposed ratings blockbuster - State of Origin? Most Australians wouldn't know or care apparently.

4 million people live in Regional areas which are RL heartlands in NSW and QLD which are not included in these ratings - more than the population of Perth and Adelaide combined.

Beaussie - why was the AFL GF down from 1 million to 700,000 in Sydney this year?

onion all that this old post shows that 5 years ago in capital cities AFL was doing OK. What is doesn't show is what it's doing now or what it's doing Australia wide then or now in relation to Rugby League. The capital cities are not all of Australia I assume you realize that or do you. Always have to wonder where your mind is at when you do something like this.
