AFL radio coverage best ever in 2007

Post by Beaussie »

Sounds good for all footy fans wherever one lives. I take it the first paragraph in the article below means Triple MMM will continue with live broadcasts in NSW and QLD. =D>

Are you a footy fan who listens to games on radio? If so, do you agree this is great news for footy fans in Australia?

Every AFL match will be broadcast on radio in the home cities of the competing teams for the first time next year.

The league today announced it had negotiated deals with radio broadcasters for the next three years.

AFL chief operating officer Ben Buckley said the most significant outcome was that supporters of Victorian clubs would be able to listen to all of their teams' matches.

Previously, that had only been guaranteed for non-Victorian clubs, with 16 occasions in 2006 in which matches involving Victorian teams were not broadcast back to Melbourne from interstate.

"This was the highest priority for the AFL in our negotiations with our partners and represents a major step forward for fans," Buckley said.

"We will continue to have the same level of home and away coverage for all teams based outside of Victoria, as we have in our previous radio rights agreements."

Melbourne sports radio station SEN will broadcast AFL for the first time, in the only change to the line-up of broadcasters.

I always listen to TripleM footy if the game is also live on tv for my boys. I much prefer radio commentary to anything that 10 or 9 put forth this year. Timmy Ginever is always great to listen to over here in Adelaide, especially for Port games heh.

It'll be interesting next season, not sure what I will do as generally I used to like 7's commentary team. Depending on who they have on their lineup on live match's for Port will go a long way to determining if I fire up the radio and mute the tv sound.

On the other hand, excellent news for footy fans in general, especially the vics who until now have only had limited opportunities to listen to the games live for their teams on radio. TripleM have done the right thing and should reap benefits from it.
