SWANS coach Paul Roos has complained to Channel Ten about its football commentary, pointing out that criticism of Sydney's game style that accompanied the start of a recent Saturday night match would have prompted viewers to turn off.
The Swans confirmed yesterday that Roos spoke to the network but refused to comment further, given the sensitivity of the issue following revelations from the recent club chief executives' meeting.
Roos took issue with commentators Malcolm Blight and Tim Lane and their frustration in the opening minutes of the round-16 Sydney-Richmond match, in which there were repeated stoppages in the centre of the ground following the opening bounce.
Roos' view was that his team was engaging in a tough, high-pressure contest; the commentators' view was that the Swans' tactics were negative and stifling.
Roos and his media manager Steve Brassell also pointed out to Ten that both parties should be mindful of building an audience in a developing market.
The meeting took place at the Swans headquarters this month before the chief executives' meeting.
