ST KILDA star Justin Koschitzke collapsed while fronting an AFL report for Channel 7 program Sportsworld today.
Koschitzke fractured his skull in a round six match following a collision with Bulldogs player Daniel Giansiracusa.
The 23-year-old was just about to sign off, after telling viewers he is two weeks away from returning to action for the Saints, when his eyes rolled and he staggered backwards before collapsing.
Channel Seven immediately went back to shocked host Johanna Griggs, who cut to a commercial break.
Injury-prone ruckman Koschitzke was playing just his second match for the season early last month when he was knocked unconscious at Telstra Dome after a hard clash of heads with Giansiracusa.
"He is coherent," Griggs told viewers. "We're waiting for the ambulance.
"Fingers crossed but it all appears to be good."
Sportsworld's David Schwarz later told Griggs that Koschitzke had sustained slight memory loss but is generally OK.
"He got a bit of a knock to the head but he is fine," said Schwarz in Melbourne.
"The medicos did come and assess how he was feeling, what he thought about the day and if he could remember how he got here.
"The good news for Justin and his family is that he's going to hospital and the signs are good.
"He does have a little bit of memory loss but only very slight.
"The medicos did say he fainted and lost a bit of blood pressure but he'll be OK."
Schwarz said before he had collapsed live on air, Koschitzke had been looking forward to joining his St Kilda teammates on their mid-season break in Bonnie Doon, in north-east Victoria, for a week-long camp.
"He said that he caught up with some ex-players last night in Stewart Loewe and they played a bit of poker but he had an early night," said Schwarz.
"He came in (to the studio) with his partner Alicia and we're glad she was here because she did the ring-around to his family and manager Liam Pickering.
"He couldn't have been more buoyant. He was looking forward to playing and didn't think he was too far away.
"It was hard to see him lying there in a bit of strife but he's OK, bump on the head, no problems." Koschitzke collapses on Sportsworld
Anyone catch it this morning on Sportsworld? Glad to hear the young bloke is by all accounts alright now. Certainly didn't look good when it happened. I've never been witness to such a thing on live national TV.
