Okay let's settle this easy . What was the a average nrl crowd in Sydney last year and what was the average swans crowd . Can we also have the average giants crowd and the combined average if both clubs in Sydney . If suspect the average swans crowd to be larger than the giants crowd given new team in emerging market where little interest lies. Now, if the average total AFL crowd in Sydney is half as much as the average nrl crowd in Sydney then I think the AFL is just doing okay . Can someone put those figures up please without comment or but but but. And just AFL and nrl games in Sydney please .

I thought it would be pretty close but its not.
NRL average in Sydney would be a bit below 16k for HA
AFL average in Sydney would be about 25k(swans) and 13k (about average for GWS in Sydney) Swans play 11 games to GWS playing about 6, so that's an average of about 21-22k.
Que Dave with GWS average crowd in Sydney is really 6k and something about the swans inflating GWSs average.

think these are good enough to put in here also:
Total AFL audience after 2 rounds and NRL audience after 5 rounds:
2000: AFL 504,693 NRL 530829
2002: AFL 551,493 NRL 520931
2004: AFL 544,594 NRL 558697
2006: AFL 541,087 NRL 617995
2008 AFL 631,379 NRL 719300 (NRL to 8 matches)
2010: AFL 655,004 NRL 724997
2012: AFL 678,464 NRL 681047 (AFL to 9 matches)
2013: AFL 716,603 NRL 705864 (Giving the storm 16k attendance tonight)
Note:
- the NRL have only grown by 175,035 for the first 5 roundtally since the year 2000, or only 35,007 per round
- the NRL have actually shrunk in crowds per round since 2008 and 2010, over the first 5 rounds
- the AFL have increased by 106k per round since the year 2000 over the first 2 rounds
Yet according to Dave the AFL is shrinking and the NRL growing.
Has he got it the wrong way round?

Great crowd at the GABBA in pouring rain on Saturday. Great to see so many young families decked out in Lions gear. Future looks bright in Brisbane. If only th eLions could pull th efinger out and start winning.
I honestly don't think that the Q-Clash will out-draw the Broncos Titans game last weekend, but I think it'll go close, which is a minor victory in and of itself.
Both Lions and Swans had games in pouring rain against inter-state sides on the weekend, and both exceeded 20k, something that the Storm have failed to do in 9 H&A home matches in a row.
AFL Expansion clubS > nRL expansion cluB.

I agree the Lions crowd was pretty good considering the weather & the way we played the week before.
If we had beat the Bulldogs in round 1 & the weather was fine I think we could have got 25,000 - 27,000
I really hope the Lions can start winning soon that NAB cup really got me excited only to be really let down

Hello Dave, you there? :D :D
you minda wannabe
we have always had 11K & 18K crowds for all sydney games , even less in some instances ... since 1908 you f wit
they're now being puncuated with 30 40 & 50K crowds too which we haven't had regularly for H&A games in sydney since the 1960's
but we're on our way back to those halcion days
vicky kicky used to get crowds of 63K on average at ANZ only a few short years ago
now they get 23K
thats why 23k is pathetic you halfwitted ass clown ... its based on the recent past

It is a bit of a worry these crowd figures in Sydney, but I dont think it is anything to celebrate Raiderdave, it just makes Sydney look stupid.
I mean imagine in America say New york hating American Football & prefering Rugby League, yet the rest of the country follow American Football, just like happens here with Australian Football except for Sydney. It would make New York look silly for hating there national football code & choosing a strange foreign game from England. It just would not happen!
So come on Sydney get behind the Footy, you have a great respectable team there in the Swans so how about getting behind them just like the rest of the country does with other teams

Meanwhile in the NRL.....theyve had their single biggest H&A crowd in 40 years last week yet are still well down on previous years

NRL Is most popular by far in Sydney, NSW, QLD, particualy Brisbane and North Queensland and Canberra. That's more then just Sydney like what pete_9 says. Australia is like France a bit. In France, rugby is more popular in south France whereas soccer is the main sport in the north
