Try looking with your eyes this time!

Both the suns and lions got between 70k and 110k almost every week, plus they were live and ad free on foxtel most times as well.

These are great figures for expansion teams in a city of 2million.

In fact the NRL only rated 90k to 180k for Sunday games, and many 9.30 FN games, and none of these games were simulcast on foxtel or against any other games.

These are excellent results and prove the strength of th AFL in QLD especially since the teams were in the bottom few on the ladder and thrashed almost weekly!

The storm on the other hand are riding high and at the peak of their on field powers. They need to be consolidating this success with off field results right now. So let's have a look: Home game average of only 14k in a brand new stadium, FTA ratings average in Melbourne (4mil) of about 60k with no concurrent payTV game to steal viewers! And this is when they are
ladder leaders!

Oh dear.....
Lions ... drew 100K just once , you claimed they average near this ..... they actaully average about 70K.....
Suns are jumping around with joy if they get to 40K
neither were ever on ... on FTA & pay at the same time in Brsibane

don't compare these woeful ratings to any of the QLD NRL sides
the Broncos worst ratings of the year would be bigger then the best rating the Lions & Suns could put together .. combined.

the Storm attracted around 15K a week to AAMI .. thats OK .. it's getting better
they also do considerally better on TV .. when they're shown at a good time .. which is rare ... then their equivalent 2 AFL sides in Sydney & Brisbane who've been rammed down the throats of people in NSW & QLD for decades
god knows what'd be happening if they were shown regularly in prime time ... spose we'll find out in 2013
show me where I claim the Lions average near 100k

The Lions and Suns ratings put the Storm to shame and are not that far off Brisbane's ratings for games involving non-Qld teams, like on Sundays or FN's.

This is despite the Lions and Suns games being broadcast on FTA and PayTV simultaneously.

They are excellent results for 2 teams on the bottom of the ladder. Things are looking up for the AFL in QLD! :D

Xman, that's actually not correct. I assume you are talking about Fox Sports Plus (AKA Main Event)? That broadcast only goes to New South Wales and Queensland. It is not seen in the other states.

However there will be simultaneous broadcasts in 2012. 7mate and Fox Footy are bound to broadcast the same games at the same time live.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Reading carefully you will have noticed I said RL games not involving QLD teams.

Here's some examples:
PEN vs NEW 9 S 140,000
SYD vs MAN 9 S 159,000
PAR vs SOU 9 FN 142,000
MAN vs NEW 9 S 129,000

WST vs SOU 9 FN 114,000

SOU vs CRO 9 FN 88,000
CANT vs STI 9 FN 103,000
SOU vs GC 9 FN 128,000
PAR vs WST 9 90,000

This is about half of them. Notice a number are below 100k. This is RL heartland and none of these games are broadcast against foxtel!!!

AFL is definately strong in QLD! :D

It proves 3 things: RL fans turn off after 9.30pm. They only watch their own city playing and show far less interest in RL in general. They watch AFL at pretty good numbers, up until after 9.30pm, and on Foxtel at the same time.

I never claimed the AFL was as popular as RL in QLD. I said the AFL's ratings in Brisbane were much better than the Storm in Melbourne.

To prove this I showed that the Lions and Suns rate 70k - 110k in Brisbane despite often being shown against payTV. I said that this compared well to many RL games in Brisbane, which rate between 90k and 200k, with no Foxtel RL on at the same time.

It can't concentrate, Xman. It can only burp.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

And what time were those games on? before 11pm? no.
reasonable times I'd say
but what does it matter .... most of your wombat mates NRL examples were the 2nd Friday night game that rarely started before 9.45pm
I'd say they'd of been no later then that

so we have 130,000 veiwers for some pretty unattractive NRL non Qld games starting at 9.45pm in Brissie
&
for a non QLD AFL match ... but an AFL blockbuster nevertheless.. in the same city ...on , the same night , at the same time attracting 8-[ .... 4,000

sorry what was your point again xman ?

Friday night AFL started at 11pm in NSW/Qld for the majority of 2011, nice try, though.

BS.. nice try though ........

http://www.throng.com.au/AFL/7mate-air- ... gional-qld

From tonight, 7mate in regional NSW and regional QLD will air the Friday night AFL game at the same time as those in AFL states see it on Seven. Sydney and Brisbane have regular 7mate programming, and have to wait until 11.30 to see the AFL on Seven or subscribe to Fox Sports to see it live on the Main Event channel (518).

AFL fans in NSW and QLD have questioned why free to air digital channels cannot be used to air the AFL into traditional non-AFL areas - especially as the AFL is expanding into new markets. Interim anti-siphoning laws do indeed now allow free to air networks to use their digital channels to broadcast certain sporting events.

The news comes after ONE HD broadcast last night’s (March 24) AFL season opener live into NSW and QLD. Ratings were very low - just 9,000 Sydney, a lot more in Brisbane at 36,000. Brisbane’s figure of 36,000 was better than the movie on GO! from 9.30 which was watched by 34,000.

Given such low viewer numbers in Sydney, it is unlikely that 7mate in Sydney would follow suit and broadcast the Friday night AFL games in Sydney, but in Brisbane, based on 36,000 watching the season opener, it could well be worth 7mate giving it a go.For those who live in areas where you can get both Sydney and regional NSW TV or can get both Brisbane and regional QLD TV, and therefore can actually receive two 7mate’s (as well as two of all the other commercial digital channels), keep in mind the regional version of 7mate is channel 63, the city version is 73.

If you have kept 73, and removed 63, you will either have to rescan or chose not to skip 63. Until now, there has never been any variance between the city version of 7mate to the regional version as far as programming is concerned - therefore viewers would normally have only needed to keep one of them.

The AFL on 7mate may do well in southern NSW in particular as well as south east QLD who now have their own team in the Gold Coast Suns.

Please note - that just because it is on 7mate, does NOT mean it is in HD. Given that the Friday night AFL games air on Seven in AFL states, Seven do not produce them in HD, only standard definition.
