You're not looking very hard, are you? If you stand at the south-west corner of Eels home ground, Pirtek Stadium at O'Connell Street Parramatta, you are 25 metres from the boundary line of an Aussie Rules football oval.

Yep, Old Kings Oval crossed to the dark side and became an AFL footy field in 2015.

I think this is the kind of "up close and personal" discomfort underpinning the Eels Chairman's woe.
never even seen a Sherrin on the Field.

usually it is used for 1st grade Cricket.
Yep .
More propaganda .
More perception .

Get a set of fumble posts put up on a cricket oval ,& suddenly it's an Aflol field .
& the idiots lap up this propaganda .

Totally True..

what is Coogee & Bankstown Oval AFL grounds now.
Because they are of oval shape and posts can be stuck on it during the winter.

Western Sydney Wanderers are at the bottom of the A league table.
But they still seem to get a lot more support than your Giant Wasting Shit Giants.

Blame the ethnics like sheedy hey. Nothing to do with the terrible mascot and boring game lol.. :(/ :(/

Yes I like the English Premier league football. I appreciate a game that actually has skill to kick a goal unlike AFL where a two year old can score points it is that easy.

Your laughing at real football yet you follow a game nobody outside Australia even knows exists lol.

I am from the UK, of course I am going to like football.
Plenty of us like Rugby League and Football or soccer as you call it here.

You can talk up your little Victorian fumble excuse for a sport as much as you like. But at the end of the day it has gone nowhere compared to Rugby League and football.

Man AFL can't even get a neighbouring country to like their sport. That really says how little respect AFL has as a credible code.

Even Grid Iron is played by the Canadians too, but no other country wants to play AFL lol =D> :(/ :(/

Don't take my word for it that the AFL continues to grow in western Sydney. Just listen to the whining from the Eels chairman.
Eels chairman Steve Sharp told The Daily Telegraph his club felt stranded as Parramatta fight AFL club GWS and the A-League’s Wanderers in Sydney’s west.

"Five years ago if you drive around Parramatta you wouldn’t see AFL posts in a school. Now we have 40 or 50 schools in our area that have AFL posts.”

When Beaussie started this thread on 1 May, I thought it was a cracker of a theme. It goes to the heart of the AFL's biggest challenge: lifting the presence and profile of the code in what is arguably its toughest market: western Sydney.

This thread doesn't belong in the dustbin of forgotten ideas. It deserves to be actively maintained.

I'll do my best to contribute here regularly, to keep the fire burning.

So 40 or 50 schools in one area (hmmmm make up your mind) can get all these kids playing AFL yet there wouldn't be 10 let alone 40 or 50 cricket grounds available in Parramatta. Makes sense, real sense. Oh, you mean these 40 or 50 schools in the Parra district share a few cricket ovals?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, hmmmm, must be a hellava lot of movement between the schools and cricket grounds, must be a nighmare trying to keep things running smoothly so no one misses out?

Oh, you're not telling me each of these schools has their own cricket ground now do they, did the AFL buy them for each and every one?

I knew I read that right, lets see.
Now we have 40 or 50 schools in our area that have AFL posts.”
I would love to see how any school let alone 40 or 50 could all of a sudden afford to have a cricket ground slash new AFL ground at their school when 5 years ago they didn't.

There are lies and then there are fumbleballers with agendas and their fuckwit mates in the media talking shit, I know where this category lands.

40 or 50 schools in Parramatta alone have had AFL posts put up according to Bea and his article, I would like to know if there are 40 or 50 cricket grounds in Parramatta. Fuck it, is there even 40 or 50 schools in parramatta let alone cricket grounds on said school land with 4 posts that are not used for flags but used for scoring points in AFL really there?

Doesn't make sense any way you look at it.

20 kids a team, 20 x 50 = 1000 players a week just in Parramatta eh?

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Critics enjoy badmouthing AFL. It is of no interest to multicultural western Sydney, they say.

"In 2015, multicultural players made up 15% of the AFL player list."

You will find the full story here:
http://www.aflnswact.com.au/index.php?i ... 5d07b36858

I can't put the entire story here for you because I work from my phone.

Its good to see the Giants' community engagement and schools' programs growing at a healthy pace in western Sydney...
... and probably helps to explain all those AFL posts which startled the Eels' CEO.
