I don't think there is 40 fields for AFL in NSW / QLD put together.

You're not looking very hard, are you? If you stand at the south-west corner of Eels home ground, Pirtek Stadium at O'Connell Street Parramatta, you are 25 metres from the boundary line of an Aussie Rules football oval.

Yep, Old Kings Oval crossed to the dark side and became an AFL footy field in 2015.

I think this is the kind of "up close and personal" discomfort underpinning the Eels Chairman's woe.

I am from the UK, of course I am going to like football.
Plenty of us like Rugby League and Football or soccer as you call it here.

Eels chairman Steve Sharp told The Daily Telegraph his club felt stranded as Parramatta fight AFL club GWS and the A-League’s Wanderers in Sydney’s west.

"Five years ago if you drive around Parramatta you wouldn’t see AFL posts in a school. Now we have 40 or 50 schools in our area that have AFL posts.”

When Beaussie started this thread on 1 May, I thought it was a cracker of a theme. It goes to the heart of the AFL's biggest challenge: lifting the presence and profile of the code in what is arguably its toughest market: western Sydney.

This thread doesn't belong in the dustbin of forgotten ideas. It deserves to be actively maintained.

Fuck it, is there even 40 or 50 schools in parramatta let alone cricket grounds on said school land with 4 posts that are not used for flags but used for scoring points in AFL really there?
